Hope you bought a warranty or have deep pockets. Engine mount job on an SL600/SL65 is about 20 hours book time, can easily hit 3-4k just to replace the mounts. If you do an ECU tune which makes the car much faster, your coilpacks will go out sooner or later and can range 900-1400 per coilpack and the car has 2.

Brakes on an SL65 are about 1k per rotor since they are 2 piece brembo brakes. If you do need to replace your brakes I posted on another thread where there's an MB dealer that will give you 25% off the brakes and save you about 1k.

Like all R230s SL65 is equipped with hydraulic suspension, if you do not care for this system parts can go out real quick if you don't address any problems. However there are many vendors now that offer rebuilt parts with usually 1 yr/unlimited miles. Arnott Struts, Rebuilt Valve Blocks/Rebuilt ABC pumps are 500-800 a piece, but hey better than when you could only buy dealer parts back in the day for 2k a piece per part.

If you go beyond ecu/tcu tune and want to add an exhaust and intakes, than I highly suggest you buy a Quaife LSD so you can put the power down, otherwise you'll be spinning till 3rd. Not many people do any other performance mods beyond that since usually it gets very pricey and time consuming to do any other performance mods and people are happy once they do exhaust and intakes.

The car is pretty reliable as long as you keep up with maintenance, but you have to remember this was a 200k car new so parts reflect that.

Thank you for that information! Very helpful. I am mechanically savvy so I could do jobs like brakes and coil packs myself. I planned on getting a really good warranty when I get it. Any recommendations on a good one from a mb dealer?

Well, sometime when I hear these huge numbers for service and problems with this type of cars, I often wunder where this comes from. I have never had any issues with my cars if they were MB's or MBW's. I always just change the engine Oll's with the best available and do not use any "standard" from the dealer oil. Likewise I nerver leave the car in for service, as I know all the staff want to take a free ride. Maybe the skill level on mechanics in the Nordic countries are just better educated. Anyhow I just wonders.

I currently have a service contract with NAC and they have been very good so far.

One thing about hanging out on forums, everyone has car problems. Its like surveying people at the doctors office. They all have issues.
