2004 SLK Special Edition
availability of 2004 SLK

Does anybody know when the 2004 SLK will be available. I'm not talking about the new generation, but the last year of the original SLK. I am planning on ordering one and I'd like to know if anybody knows when the model eyar changes. Any info on this subject would be greatly appreciated. thanks.

I got this information from the Daimler Chrysler web site:

"Final Edition": Special-edition SLK-Class Roadster with fine nappa leather interior appointments

A superbly enjoyable open-top driving experience is also provided by the "Final Edition" of the successful SLK-Class Roadster which Mercedes-Benz is also presenting in Geneva.

This special model is characterised by an exceptional range of technical features - including the innovative vario-roof, the Electronic Stability Program (ESP®), Brake Assist and sidebags in the doors - as well as by high-quality trim elements and fine materials. The radiator grille, for example, which is finished in chrome-silver metallic paint, is among the defining exterior features of the Roadster, as are the high-gloss polished aluminium strips on the A-pillars and the vario-roof. 16-inch light-alloy wheels with a distinctive 5-twin-spoke design further enhance the sporty and elegant appearance of this special model.

Inside, the "Final Edition" cossets the SLK driver and passenger with soft nappa leather (in black or classic red) which covers the redesigned sports seats, the central sections of the door linings and both roll-over bars. High-gloss brushed aluminium is used for the trim on the centre console and door handles, while the instrument cluster's silver-coloured dial markings and metal-coloured adjusting knobs for the clock and trip recorder distinguish it from that found in the standard SLK-Class Roadster. The SLK-Class "Final Edition" is available from March 2003."

I saw it at the dealers over the weekend. Don't know whether you can find it where you live.

2004 SLK Special Edition
The Final Edition is only available in Europe March 03. I'm just trying to find out when the regular 2004 SLK will be available in the U.S. Anybody know?

2004 SLK Special Edition
The last year of the original SLK will be the 2004 year. I have no idea when the new SLK will be released but I'm sure sometime in 2005. The 2004's will be available in the U.S. starting in August, assuming my dealer knows what they are talking about. Does anybody know if the "Final Edition" will be available with a 6-speed? Now that would be a classic.

It's fairly likely that the model year 2004 SLKs will start showing up at dealers in July and that most dealers will have them by August. If you've ordered a 2004 SLK, the time that your car arrives at the dealer is dependent on when the dealer's allocation slot was scheduled.

There will be a Special Edition of the '04 SLK for the US market. It was presented at the New York Auto show. I couldn't find a press release on it, but it looks like this US Special Edition will have:
Brushed aluminium trim from the Euro Special and Final Edition
Optional wheels from the Euro Final Edition
Badging from the Euro Special Edition
SLK32 Spoiler

Not sure if it will have some of the other cool stuff from the Euro Final Edition like the Nappa leather interior and leather-covered roll-bars, but it looks like it will not have the chrome trim on the A-pillars and roof.

Knowing MBUSa, it will probably have some equipment standard that is normally optional, like the K2 or K4 package.

U.S. Availability Of SLK Spec.Edition

Will be able to see actual vehicle at showrooms in July. Five exterior colors are Black, Red, Pewter, Silver and White. Interior
only avail. in Charcoal 'ribbed' Nappa leather and (in 320) only,
Calypso Wood trim. 17" Special AMG alum. wheels in a 7 "twin
spoke" design are std, as is the AMG style rear Spoiler, 6 speaker
Bose Radio, Silver radiator grill, high-gloss painted 'A' pillars. in
essence you are getting part of the Designo pkg and part of the
Sport Pkg, and part of the AMG pkg for free. They have a 320 at
the MB Center in Montvale, N.J. but they are not allowing anyone
to visit the center because of '9/11' security precautions.

2004 SLK Special Edition
Any chance that it will be available with a 6-speed? I'm sure I'd have to order it but I'd really love a 6-speed. Do you know when MB is going to update their website with the 2004 info?

Some clarifications:

The "ribbed Nappa leather" is the same as the Euro Final Edition. It's similar to the center section of the SLK32 seats, which I would call "pleated."

Calypso Wood is already standard on the 320.

The 7-doublespoke wheels are called Celaeno, part of the "incenio" wheel prorgram offered in Europe. They're not AMG.

The 6-speaker Bose radio is already standard equipment.

The Sport package and the AMG package are the same thing.

To adamrs80, yes it will be available with either the 6-speed manual or the 5-speed automatic.

In know the machined aluminum trim in the facelifted SLK230 has some glare, but the brushed aluminum trim in the Special/Final Edition isn't bad at all.

SLK Spec. Edition

Included as std. equip. is a 6 speaker Bose System, not the 4 speaker in regular SLK. Also std. is a 6 disc CD changer that is
normally an option. High gloss painted A pillars, silver painted
radiator also std.. No choice of interior wood, you must take
Calyptus. NY Auto Show information plaque also stated that
std. equip. included 'AMG Style Rear Spoiler' and Special Sport
Seats in (Charcoal only) Nappa leather.

2004 SLK Special Edition
Just ordered a 2004 final edition SLK yesterday. Going to be built the first week of September, and should be here around 45 days later, so around mid October. I don't know if anybody else has seen the double 7-spoke wheels but they are awesome looking. Anybody else going to get the special edition? I'm still not sold on the looks of the R171 so it'll be nice to have an instant classic.

If I am not mistaken the regular SLK has the 6 speaker Bose system, tweeter & midrange in each door & 2 woofers behind the seats.

That's what I tried to say. There isn't even a 4-speaker Bose system available. My guess is that this is a typo from some info that came from Germany.
