SLK 350 - Check Engine Light
My dealer can't seem to resolve the problem. Hope someone here can give me some good advice ........
2006-SLK 350, 32000 miles, automatic trans, few options, under warantee
The "check engine" light keep going back on about 100 miles after dealer resets it. All they say is "just keep bringing it back when it happens." After 5 trips back, Im a bit tired of it. Before I go up the dealer food chain, thought I'd try here.
Yes, I have checked the gas cap many times.
Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

I don't intend this too sound short or trite but I suggest trying a different dealership. I would be surprised if the car is is not storing codes that can be used by a well versed technician to diagnose the problem. If not, the dealership should take it upon itself to seek advice from D-B.
Problems of this sort can be pesky to say the least but simply telling you to keep bringing it back, after 5 such trips, is not acceptable unless there is more to the story.

His mama. Traded y0 mama in because she was squeaking.
Take it to another dealer.
Alternately, take it to an Auto Zone (or whatever auto parts store that can do it), and have them pull the codes.
THEN, let us know what the codes are.

A 6/29 follow up.....
Picked up my car today and before I got home the "check engine" light was on again. The dealer sent two guys to my home (25 miles) and picked up the car. I now believe the situation has reached critical mass and since management is now involved, some good may come. They previously reloaded all the firmware and the codes indicated that the car had been running when filling up with gas. So......... not the case.
Will keep you updated.

Optimistic
Always the optimist, i believe the situation has been resolved. It seems there is a sensor in the grill (lower left) that measures the outside air temperature and thereby adjusts the air/fuel mixture entering the carburetor based on the outside temperature. This sensor had come loose and was just hanging below the grill, causing the "check engine" light to come on. Earlier warrantee work (both headlight units had to replaced due to the chrome chipping) requiring the front bumper to be removed, may have been the culprit.

MBWorld Fanatic!
One version of "check engine light" requires dealer to install new camshaft gears. On early models of 350 engine. See DTB S-B_03.30/08j, "Check Engine Light On/Fault Codes Current and/or Stored in ME-SFI Control; Module/Oil Leaking at Camshaft Adustment Solenoid."
