2.82 diff on the E55, help?

I installed today the 2.82 diff from an SL55 on my E55, i worked alot with STAR to make it run but without result, I also installed the TCU from the SL55 but the engine did not start, anyone know how to adapt the transmission to the new ratio?

haters crazy
Call up Cory at Kleemann and send him your TCU. He will fix it. The 2.82 should allow for quicker acceleration at the cost of less max speed. I have considered going to 3.07 myself. Just afraid it would result in even more tire smoke lol

As I recall Jakpro1 did same 2.65 to 2.82 and did have to change ratio in Star, my best advise would be to PM jakpro1 he has Star and can probably give step by step procedure.
If that won't work then send it to Cory.

When you say you "installed TCU from the SL55", do you mean you flashed it with the same software or actually switched the unit itself? It may need to be paired-up with the ECU again if it is a new unit

+1. I have not been able to get it switched with developer in Star.

I ended up sending my TCU to Corey and Kleemann and he flashed it and she works great.

Super nice guy too! Be ready, it ain't cheap. Sorry for the bad news. Gonna love the tight shifts though. Some just punch ya in the back.

Good point. If it is a working TCU from an SL55, there was a feature in Star in which you "sync" the current vehicle VIN with your ECU. I had to do it to get my unit working with the MHP TCU.

Been searching on my Star for the procedure but don't remember how I got there. Go figure!

Will keep looking while working today and post if I find it.

E55, Supercharged Z4 (sold)
Did you notice a nice improvement in acceleration from this? My Z4 had some nice pull at low rpm with a higher ratio, 3.07 to a 3.46 but I did the supercharger at the same time so it was hard to tell what did what.

Would changing to this gear ration increase your trap speed or reduce it at the end of the 1/4? I am guessing it reduces the trap speed but makes a quicker ET...

Howdy ... non trivial exercise.

The EGS unit needs reprogramming this cannot be done via STAR. Also its my understanding that the SL55 canbus language / software is different to the E55 and not compatible. It would be very interesting if you got the SL55 EGS to work in the E...

In my experience changing the EGS can only in reality be done by a handfull of guys. Kleemann, MKB and Renntech I believe. Also its best done with the entire car there - flashing the EGS unit on its own is a bit hit and miss - ask me been there.

The other issue is I dont believe getting a 3.06 ratio to work on the E is possible from a s/w viewpoint. But this is not ideal as you max out at 196 mph with this ratio. Why? I have no clue I guess the work arounds used to make the 2.82 work are just not plausible with the 3.06. Don't you just love all the electronics we have?

Get the EGS flashed by Kleemann (they did mine) and you will be pretty happy. Make sure they have the whole car though. Mainly because if you have an ECU tune on your car - this can interfere with the opperation of the EGS s/w update.

Also let me know if you see any change in drivability in terms of functions... e.g. can you use paddles in S mode (mine only work in M), although the gear stick works in S mode Go figure. Slightly annoying.

Also, my car shifts automatically to second from first at the limiter in M. Not a bad thing TBH so pretty happpy about that one.

Your car model year will also influence what EGS s/w they will need. There was an processor change on the EGS (not sure when) and s/w on the old processor is not campatible on s/w from the new processor etc - so keep this in mind.

Overall very happy with the end result - but the s/w was a pretty big PITA - more than swapping the diff out using axle stands....

P.S. your gearchanges will be much faster too btw
