I don't know about the other tuners but Renntech is not CARB approved. I did quite a bit of research before I had my SL55 modded with Renntech upgrades (pulley, ECU flash, Throttle body and carbon fiber air box) and did discover that they were not approved. Even though I have not had my car smogged yet I have heard directly from Renntech as well as other installers that the car will pass smog.

lKirchner,

thanks. who did the RT work-Kronen Tuning or other? also, any reason you chose RENNtech versus Kleeman (is CA Carb approved?)/Carlsson/Brabus etc. condsidering RT-1-thought about Kleeman-1. Adam at Kronen (Fremont) seems like pretty good guy...thank you.

The local dealer in Sacramento did the work. They have a tech who is an "AMG Expert". I chose RT based on a number of recommendations that I received when doing my homework on modding the car. From all that I have heard Adam is super. If I had been closer to Freemont I would have had him do the work.

Passing sniffer in one thing, the visual completely another. As I am running primary race cats only, I would not pass visual. Last time around I did pass sniffer, did not bother to look under the car. Lower it all of the way down prior to pulling in.

yup, usually that's what I've seen is that if you blow clean - they don't poke around - now obviously if there's a big shiny 'out of place' looking thing in your engine bay - it throws a red flag - so no fancy intake tubing or open air elements will work unless there's an E-0 tagged with the part.

headers are somewhat subtle but not chrome ones, would have to get them coated to minimize the 'show' - which sucks...

tired of looking for those "look the other way" testing stations - I just don't hang in that crowd

I'm definitely in the boat of - if it blows clean, who cares what it looks like?

well, if I posted a new thread you'd say "search"
I searched, and bumped because I couldn't find more info...

so what's your preference? post new? or bump old?

just because you don't have to have CA smog doesn't mean it's not important to others
