It's sealed in a closed plastic box. Still lame.

if the reason it keeps stay locked is due to a fault in the electric motor,
you could try do drain your battery so much to the point the motor will (hopefully !) release strenght on the lock.
at that point you should be able to open manually + key.

no warranty .. just reasoning !

or maybe, instead of draining the battery, there's a fuse somewhere .. but who knows which one

This happened to me when the ****ing battery died and I couldn't release the electric trunk release from the front (WHY MERCEDES???)

I dinked around with the manual key forever, and found that mine was broken or something so it wouldn't engage the latch when the key was fully turned.

Eventually, I found that if you put one hand on the rear trunk release handle (the lever under the lip of the trunk) and "feel" it, it will be hanging loose with no tension. While feeling the tension on that release, slowly turn the key from left to right, and at some point you'll feel the handle tension stiffen up like it's contacting the latch. It's somewhere in the middle. When you feel tension on the release handle, just pull it, and the trunk will open. Just look for that sweet spot in the angle of the key.

Hope this makes sense, and it works.

sorry, but in your case of dead battery why you just didn't supply current (from an external source) through the cigar lighter socket, for example ?

Thanks. Tried what you said 50 times. Me and a buddy, then me and my mechanic tried everything today. Even broke the tip of the key. Nothing.
Funny I've probably had groceries there once since I never want them touching the subwoofers, good timing.
Even cleared ecu codes etc. Dropping it off at a big Benz shop tomorrow. If that doesn't workout, we are gonna cut through the metal behind the back seat. Sucks but that's the last resort. Unbelievable. Did I mention this really pisses me off?

This place is a joke.
Does your key blade work in the drivers door and/or the glovebox?

The tuna didn't smell!!!

The f'er is open. Few hours at a Benz shop and they were able to free up the latch, handle and get it open. Wires were a huge mess, they fixed the trunk closer as well. No more issues.

Poor wiring design in the trunk? I don't use it a lot.

$200 to fix the trunk closer isn't tooooo bad. Have you fixed the SOS problem yet?

SOS was caused by the wiring in the trunk.
Music still cuts off though. Nav is fine.

On top of it - my iPod cable took a crap too. I just turned the subs up to put up with the LAME Boston radio stations.
Ah well I'm busy helping planning my wedding to bother with the car everyday. Just a color change
