W211 E55 Oil Leak around the Oil Fill Cap
Hi all,
Owing this beast for over 3 years, still loving it a lot, despite the fact that really lots of minor problems associated with her.
The latest one, I found that there is oil leak around the oil fill cap. From the pic, should I replace the O-ring (18) only, or I need to replace the whole assembly (10, 11, 12)?
Thanks for your help in advance!
Cheers

use some sealant also
i know mb dont recommend it or will have any mention of it but use some sealant and you wont have that problem again. use a very small amount around the base of the valve where the gasket will sit and place some on the "inside" of the gasket where it meets with the oil filler cap housing, again- thin layer. you will not have another oil leak in that area again. do not use a lot and you will want to due to "if a little will work then a lot should be that much better" but i cannot stress enough, just use a very small circular amount and even it out. i used that blue gasket-making sealant there and also around the whole valve covers when i replaced the gasket in the valve covers and not a drop yet and dont expect a drop anytime!!

there could be another leak at the base of the oil fill extender(plastic thing cap goes on). it takes the same seal as the oil cap, but you have to remove the valve cover to get to the screw that holds it on
