Need Help Red Brake Message

Hey Guys, so the car drove fine yesterday and today soon as I unlocked the car a red brake malfunction message appeared with the reduced braking, the E brake light is on, ABS light, and also a ESP message.

I had a white brake service message prior. I replaced the pads and sensors, but it was it still, so I ordered the brake switch which I was going to install this weekend.

I can hear the SBC pump turn on, but it runs little longer then usual, then the red light comes on.

I can't seem to find anything in the search button. But what could be causing these issues? I hope its not the pump.

It is the pump or some part of the pump (accumulator). But definitely time for your system or most of it to be replaced

I'm a big DIYer. Is the SBC unit possible to replace myself or dealer only way to go?

you can replace it by yourself but will need DAS to complete the job

Hopefully its your brake switch.

Got the white light. but it comes and goes. Doesn't always stay lit. it only appears once in awhile. No red light.

Could it be brake switch or sbc reprogram? No unusual sounds or anything else.

Curious to know before heading to dealer

scottgps, sign up for the Mercedes electronic parts catalog (EPC) online. You have to enter a credit card but it will not be charged. Enter your VIN, then scroll through the parts catalog for the specific parts you need. Or contact Pelican Parts or ECSTuning with your VIN and let their parts person look up the correct replacement part. Personally, I find the EPC extremely handy.

You'll need to find another member, independent shop, or dealer for access to the Diagnostic Assistance System (DAS). If you don't own one, you should buy one. Pricey but worth it.

Also, read everything you can on servicing the SBC! It powers up if someone opens a door while you're working on the system. If changing brake pads, it could take fingers off.

Plenty of posts on the SBC in this forum.

Hey Bbirdwell, thanks for the info. That's the website I tried, but it doesn't work on OS X system.

I have been doing my research on it, I did disconnect when I changed the brake pads

I received the quote from MB dealer and they want $1,400 for part+labor includes a re-man sbc unit. Which I think is a pretty good deal compared to what I have seen.

Does your car go into a limp mode? I had same symptoms plus the car going into a limp mode. My ESP control module was bad, cheaper fix than SBC unit

How many hours of labor did they quote you? Did they mention the part number? I think someone mentioned that they asked if a dealer would install a MB part and that dealer said they would so I think they ordered the part online and brought it to their MB dealer to install. Places like huskerparts.com tend to discount MB parts by about 30% and I think it's only supposed to take an hour or two to install. Maybe if you posted your VIN, someone could look up the part number for you.
