E55 Amg Suspension replacement

E55 Amg Suspension replacement
So I ran into another airmatic suspension problem with 120k km on the clock. The suspension is leaking once again, and as we all know you'll have to dig deep into your wallet to fix this. Especially with no warranty like I do.
I was wondering if it was possible to replace the airmatic suspension with a more basic suspension since these problems tend to show up all over again in only a matter of time anyways?
With more basic I mean with no airmatic involved what so ever. Just like on the base model E280 CDI which I once owned. (NEVER had any problems with those and they felt just fine)
Has anyone ever done this, or is this even possible?
And if so what are the costs involved, what would I need, and are there any noticeable downsides & problems involved?
I'm thinking medium stiff suspension, that keeps you on the track at high speeds but still feels OK while daily driving.
It's a 2004 E55 Amg.

Totally possible. Done by quite a few people here. I just did it just over a month ago. 158k on the clock on mine.
Many have gone with BC Racing adjustable coilovers although several are happy with Arnott. Search for threads here, plenty of info.
Cost me about $2200 -
$1095 for BC Racing Coilover kit
$800 in shop labor
$300 for a set of rear control arms from a "sprung" car like the E Series Diesel.
Pulled Fuse F37 so the only warning I get is when I start I get a "gauge malfunction" or something like that which I just clear with the up arrow.
I did not rip out any of my airmatic parts except the the rear bags and of course the struts. left in the compressor and all lines.
Getting the ride height set in the rear is a real PITA with the BC setup and the tight space but I love it. Could have had a lower bill from mechanic but he spent a lot of time getting the ride height set correctly. I am quite low but was also running my airmatic pretty low as well.
