Next Generation E-Class Spotted and Photographed Testing in Germany

Looks like softer lines than the W212. Will debut in 2016 as a 2017 model -- so two years or less left with the W212 E Class.

Better not be another smaller version of the S-Class or a bigger version of the C-Class. I would like to see angular lines like the original W212 instead of mixing both angular and round lines as seen on the refresh.

I blank it. I think it looks a lot like blank. If it has blank HP, then I will blank buy it.
The price needs to be less than blank.

2018 S560 and 2019 E450 Wagon.
I like the idea of the 9 sp trans. Does not say anything about a Wagon though, I sure hope they keep making the wagons because in a few years I'm going to be ready for a new car.

Saw this as well and I was like ... is that a C class???
Not liking the direction MB is taking on all its new models so far.

From what it looks like here, things appear to be going in that direction.

Stated differently, if you're looking for big-time power this is the model to buy.

Maybe they will compensate the loss of hp/tq with more effective delivery of power to the road via a DCT. Just look at GTR.

Power is never the issue with these cars,
but jesus..
The cars are getting uglier and uglier. I am selling my E55 and looking to get something new.
The E63 had ugly fat rear fenders.. but wait, they fixed it mid model!! Hurray!!..
oh but wait: The worlds ugliest facelift - Ok, second to that Jeep.. but ugly none-the-less
I have been trying to like it, I cant. I am now looking at other makes. AMG just doesn't have anything appealing to the eyes short of the GT.

I would like to think that a DCT will be on the next E63. Tranny is an area where the F10 M5 has an advantage over the current E63.

Not at all. The replacement is two years away. And it is going to have in all probability a much smaller 4.0 L V-8 engine from the AMG GT which will not produce the kind of power that the current 5.5 L M157 engine does. There are very very very few engines in this world that with a simple tune can take you to over 700 hp and over 830 foot pounds of torque with no other power mods as is the case with the M157 engine in the current E63 and E63 S. I would seriously doubt that the engine in the next E Class will be able to produce that kind of power if it is indeed going to be a 4.0 L engine.

Good points about the smaller engine. This 2012 I have may be a long term keeper, I think once it's out of warrantee though and at the first sign of trouble with the air ride suspension that will be replaced with regular shocks, that would cut down on a lot of worries even albeit the handling would not be as good.

I would take an e63 with lighter weight and less hp with the same mid 11s performance than a heavier e63 with more hp and identical performance .. The e63 is a fat piggy right now

And lighter weight thanks to this new technology .... As per the article; MRA architecture

"2017 E-Class line-up, we'll find new three- and four-cylinder engines, while the rumor mill also talks about the German carmaker returning to straight six engines - just like the new AMG twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 is made of two 2.0-liter 4-cylinder AMG blocks, the straight six will share parts with the 3- and 4-pot mills.
Speaking of the AMG, we’ll see the new 4.0-liter V8 in the next E63 AMG. Once again, the Affalterbach machine will receive all-wheel drive as an option, while the S model will also be offered - the current E63 AMG S Model is one manic machine that can beat the Porsche Panamera Turbo S to 60 mph."
To be clear, that engine does not approach the power output of the current M157 engine. The publication does report that the next E Class will be lighter than the current one due in part to increased use of aluminum.

NO!!!- The Jeep wins the ugly contest.
But as I contemplate a $100K vehicle purchase, the Power of the E63 is second to none... and then you look at it. The front does not match the back. Its like a mullet
I think the competition looks way better. Im just not feeling this given the design of the rear.

LOL. Actually, the entire front and the hideous lower half of the rear do not match the side.
I would like the hp/tq to either stay the same or increase. It's not designed to be a track machine so I don't mind the weight, which is an advantage in a collision with another vehicle.

Power to weight is where it's at. My 2015 E63 S will arrive in Nov. so I'll rent for 3 years and decide what to do in 2017.
Those little A45 2.0L engines make 345hp, so combine 2 in a lighter E63 we have something that could be very interesting !
