2012 E63 AMG S with 26k miles

Folks, I am interested on this car for sale in San Diego.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Mercedes-Benz-E-Class-E63S-AMG-Wagon-98K-MSRP-2012-mercedes-e-63-amg-wagon-98-k-msrp-diamond-white-/111609505793?forcerrptr=true&hash=item19fc71e801&item=111609505793&pt=US_Cars_Trucks

I own a 2000 E55 AMG and I am interested on this wagon. I've been told it is a 1 owner car, and it looks pristine in the pics.
I am looking for some basic advise on what to look for when the dealer makes a "face time" walk around the car with me on the fone. I'm in Texas. If possible I plan on asking for a PPI at a MB dealer. what else should I do ? thanks in advance.

The dealer is pitching it as a 2012 S model... that's not correct.

Well for one it's not an S, it's a performance package

Ask about the LSD service and get all records, any airmatic issues should be identified, any engine issues that were repaired under warranty at times can be a "walk away" scenario.

That's a high price btw ... By like $10k!!

I just "looked" at the car via facetime. He showed me the carfax and it shows steering issues fixed under warranty, and some power train resets in the ECU. plus normal maintenance done. It was a leased car, so the owner gave it back to MB after 3 years and 26k miles, and this dealer bought it from MB Financial. Dealer said S stands for Station wagon, not performance package (not sure about that). I also looked at BBook and it states $61k in this condition. Dealer would be happy to take it for a PPI (my expense). This was a Vegas car. how you guys feel about the above? I wish there was an E63 wagon near me, but they are not that common as you know. Coincidentally my E55 was a San Diego car too thanks folks.

the other week, when I was looking for a wagon

I bought a wagon a week ago. When I searched Yahoo Auto and MB, there were two certified wagons. One in the bay area at a price less than this Ebay car (but it didn't have the P30 package), and the one I bought in NJ. The Bay area car is / was also white.

I was going to buy the bay area car because the dealer had a video supposedly of the car and it showed it was 4 Matic. Dealer said it was a stock video and not of the real car. I was too new to the model to have realized the the 4 matics weren't available in model year 2012.

Car free at the moment
I pulled the EPC data card based on the VIN from ebay. The inservice date is Dec 12, 2011 so the car has about 9 months of factory warranty remaining. It's really all up to cosmetics, price, and consumables such as brakes and tires. The warranty will cover any mechanical issues.

I don't see the performance package on this car - wouldn't it have red calipers if so equipped.

The asking price does seem far too high. It's way above the CPO wagons you can find on the MBUSA website.

Its not a performance package either, so I don't know where the "S" comes from.

I could see the price being about $5k high, but "market" is hardly a guide. 2012/13 wagons dont come up very often, and typically they are in a color and configuration you don't like (until its the one you do like).

I paid $75k for a fully loaded (cept for the CC brakes) P30 2012 wagon with $21k miles on it about 15 months ago.

You can either wait awhile for the right deal on the car you want, immediately get the car you don't quite want for a good deal, or sometimes immediately get the car you want for not-quite-the-right deal.

Not a lot of '12 and '13 wagons around.

How has the car performed over the last 15 months? give us the good and not so good please.

Also, good point. If you like using the '12 or '13 car's acceleration, LSD was a necessary option in my book. It was strange to me that it was an option even on the P30 cars.

My "needs" at the time were P30, LSD, Carbon interior.

I wouldn't now (personally) buy a car without the Driver Assistance Package now that I've used the adaptive cruise control almost daily in stop/go traffic.

2014 E63S Wagon, 2013 odyssey
Like others have said that's a high price. I got a new wagon (2014) with a MSRP of 110K for 101... maybe I just got a smoking deal.

It has been a great pleasure to own. It's the nicest daily driver I've ever owned, and other than a newer E63 wagon, I wouldnt trade it for anything else that they sell in the US. (They don't sell the RS6 Avant here, and I'm not sure I'd buy a VW anyways.)

It now has 37k miles and other than a few small warrantee items fixed without issue (headlight haze, front alignment).

I debadged it and tinted/wrapped/whatever all the chrome. I've often considered a set of 18" wheels with Pilot Sport AS/3 for the wet winters here. No sense in wearing out the Pirellis.

Things I don't like... road noise; The E350 was quieter by aways. Traction; the car needs 4-matic for WOT in anything but perfect conditions. Brake squeek; even on my second set of pads, bedded in, the brakes still squeek. Transmission; sometimes it seems like theres a delay after the gas pedal... like a rubber band. Its a quirky transmission. But everything else is really really good.

Something happened in 2013 that improved the cooling system of the engine... Something to consider

The intercooler coolant system was divorced from the engine coolant. The parts are available to make the retrofit, though it isn't helpful unless you track or hotlap the car. In that case AMS was advertising a much upgraded system but agreed you'd have to be hotlapping or pushing aftermarket power levels.

You can find actually pricing comparisons on the internet. Looks as if there aren't a lot of E63 wagons in the SD area so that's why the dealer is trying to sell it at a premium but you still should be able to negotiate. Try to find a similar vehicle online that's less money and show them the price and also show him that his car is overpriced. I always find two or more vehicles I like then have the dealers fight against each other and the best way to do it is online or phone versus in person so they can't see your excitement about the car. Every month cars on the dealer lot depreciate so they will want to move this car and will negotiate to move this car before the end of them month.

Looks like a very clean vehicle so good luck....

When considering which performance mods to buy for my post-cooling system divorce E63 S, one of the biggest AMG tuners, which sells an intercooler upgrade, told me that in the post-divorce cars, you really don't need it even on a tuned E63 S unless: (1) you have a turbo upgrade; or (2) you intend to track the car for many many hours in Dubai-like temperatures. He told me that even for normal tracking or airstrips runs you really do not need an intercooler upgrade in a tuned post-cooling system divorce E63. He said that that is NOT the case in the pre-cooling system divorce E63s where if you tune or track the intercooler upgrade is really a good thing to get.

You've probably found them by now, but let me see if I can help. Can't seem to get a workable link to post, so here's the click through directions. From www.mbusa.com do the followings:
- select certified pre owned
- select search inventory
- on the new browser tab which opens select "AMG" on the upper right
- select the E-class model and click the small "select body style" link
- deselect the sedan
- over on the left enter a zip code and search "any distance"
- select "search now" and the four wagons should come up

Good luck

Found them....thanks for the help. Not easy to navigate the MB website....lol.

What's a P30 option? and how do we know the white wagon in SD does not have it?

14 e63s wagon
wagon

the reason they are calling it an S is in mercedes speak in 2012/13 a wagon is an e63s and a sedan is an e63w chassis. Its in the dealer ordering guide.
A p30 is performance package in 2012/13 . In 2014 S is perf. pack.

I thought "p" was the chassis designator for wagons.

This used car lot is calling it an E63S because they don't know any better. Not because it has the PP or because MB uses that code to denote wagon in some instances.
