2014 E63S Wagon ECU failure done by dealer!! Help needed!!

I am not sure if anyone has received the recall for E class. Basically it is the rubber seal in engine compartment needs to be further secured via extra metal clips to prevent rubber seal from falling off to engine headers which can cause fire.
I got the letter and went it the dealer to fix, which supposed to be a 10-min job. However, the technicians checked for transmission and engine updates as well since I mentioned that transmission sometimes has clunking feel. Now they told me that although there was no transmission update, there was an engine update via ECU, they updated the ECU but it went wrong, system crashed, ECU locked and engine can not be turned on due to ECU failure. Dealer claimed that they have to order a brand new ECU for the car from Germany which will take more than a week to do so.
I was vey upset as I never asked them to do engine update. Technician said they found the engine update while searching for transmission update so they did it. Unfortunately, ECU crashed while updating, Instead of taking time to unblock the ECU, they would rather order a new ECU to save time and work load. When I went to check out my car today, I saw my right rear wheel pushed out of the fender as they used a special tool like a huge spacer on the rear wheel in order to move my car to garage since transmission got stuck in P due to ECU failure.
I am very confused now, not sure if dealer is playing around with me as they did some other bad mistake to my car. Is there such an update for engine via ECU, what should I watch for when taking the car back next week? Is it normal? Should I ask for anything from the dealer since they made a mistake on the car? Based on today's conversation, they said the computer crashed while updating, it was very unfortunate but there was nothing they could do about it. Anyone has similar experience? Please give some suggestion on what I should do? Thanks, guys.

From the pic you can see the rear wheel sticks out of the fender due to the spacer-like tool placed in between in order to move the car without needing to tow

Tell the dealer you want a comparable car to drive while yours is down. The tech was just trying to do his job by updating your car. It sucks, but **** happens.

They gave me a CLA 250, which is a much smaller car for me, I am almost 7 feet tall..I guess I could ask for a better car during the mean time.
I am ok with that, intead more concerned about the job they did.

Your car will be fine. Drive the cla and run up miles on their car not yours.

After driving little entry CLA for a week then getting your car back, your E63 will feel like a space ship taking off.

If all they wanted to do was move the car in the shop they could have just put a floor jack under the rear differential, jacked it up and pulled or pushed it on the jack.

I had my car in for the same recall a couple weeks ago and because I have a tune I had them check for any other issues before I brought it in just in case they wanted to reflash the ECU for some reason. They said there were no other updates so I was in and out in about fifteen minutes.

Hope you get it sorted out.

I think they will make this right ... Sorry this happened to you. Is there anything else this dealership has done in the past that was shady or casts doubt into this scenario?

I would not accept a CLA. If you tell them that they will accommodate you. As far as the job they did a few different things could have happened. I would just assume there to be a glitch with the SDS. It does happen. They are computers that can be finicky to say the least.

There is not a provision in your sales contract that says you have to get a similar vehicle if you need a loaner. It's completely up to the service manager to accommodate a customer.

I drove a c300 for weeks while my new e550 was being worked on... I also get a c300 when I drop the 63 off for service

Yes
Doesn't seem like a big deal to me. Stuff happens. Ask for a bigger loaner, they will give it to you if they have one. If not, up to sales to give you a used car, not service.

A Mercedes Benz dealer will accommodate a person who just bought a $100K+ car. I promise you that.

Sorry to hear that. Give us an update when you get your car back.

I notice that you are in 604 area. I think I need to do the recall too. Which dealership did the work?

Sorry it happened to your new toy.

I would get the service department's GM or dealer GM involved and ask for a buy back or comparable trade.

When I was shopping for my 2012 W212 E63, this forum and its members was really helpful and told me to look at the service record for the car I'm buying. I am pretty sure the issues you are experincing will at lease show up on your service record ( not sure if carfax ), but this will greatly affect your car's value when your selling it or trading it in.

Good luck and please keep us updated.

Thanks guys for all the responses.
Got my car back last week. They were waiting for part to be shipped from Germany, which was back ordered. It was a ECU exchange, only took them a morning to do the work. Basically they replace the old ECU with new and transfer all the data from old to new as well. Nothing else was done. The service manager offered me the first service for free coming up in Sep. Story ends. I did not make it a too big deal in the end, did some research online which shows replacing ECU is common and most likely no harm to the car. Any thoughts or experiences here?

I would ask the question. Is this going to show on your Mercedes's service report or Carfax. I know it will show on your MB service report because MBusa is not going to lie about a major service like that. Getting a service FOC is their way of telling you to not bring this up again.

IMHO. The looks from your photos especially with your wheel pulled its axel. I would raise hell.

I always find the best result is to go over the manager you are dealing with. Bring MBusa will really help.

Good luck. We feel for you.

I would leave it alone. Even if it shows it's a simple story of the ecu computer/updated crashed and you got a new ecu

It's not like they tore open the engine or trans to do major work
