Head bolt issue

Head bolt issue
I saw a puff of white smoke this morning when I started the car, on the way from Maryland to NY the did not miss a beat however when I really press the car hard I see smoke coming from the engine area. I took the car to the dealership this morning and based on what my advisor told me it could be a head gasket problem.. Can anyone share any ideas for me

Need more details my friend.
Smoke color?
Did it come from engine compartment or exhaust?
Is it continuous and still present?
Does it happen under load or when de-accelerating (engine braking)?
Did check engine light come on?
Have you looked at you garage floor for any leaking fluids?
Have you looked at your coolant reserve tank to see if there is any color change to fluid?
Have you pulled out dipstick to see if the oil looks right? No foam? Right color?
Idle smoothness change?
Performance loss?
Etc etc.
These are the things a good tech would look at first. Then they would perform further tests like compression and such.
Go through the question list I just gave you and you might have the answer.
Good luck! Hopefully nothing serious.

The color of the smoke was white and no check engine lights came and nothing was leaking on my garage floor. As soon as I saw that I made an appointment at the dealership. There may have a slight bit of power loss but the smell of something burning whenever I got on it hard! It seemed like the smoke was coming from the engine bay too! I have an extended warranty so I'm sure they will work it out. Just so paranoid when it comes to car and I love driving it. I remember get a oil change and my mechanic told me that he saw some fluids around the engine block so he sprayed some brake cleaner around the whole area and said lets watch and see if it come back and here I am 4 months later with this new issue. My family and I went to Maryland over the holiday weekend and I'm so glad we made it safely.

Maybe you are burning up a the serpentine belt? That would also give off white smoke and more noticeably when getting on the throttle. Bad news if this is it as that somewhere you likely have a pulley on something starting to seize up. Like alternator, ac compressor, power steering, etc.
Good news is that any bad pulley is a lot less costly to fix that a head bolts and head gaskets.
Just another thought on the matter.

Ok the dealership got back to me and said it was the head gasket, so they will change everything and obviously the new head bolts will be installed too. Thank God I had the extended warranty

BTW,
Did they specifically commit to replacing both head gaskets and all head bolts?
If they are going to have both heads off, you should ask them to inspect your cams for any unusual wear. Did you see the other thread near yours on this page? Ugh. Poor guy.
Seriously, mention to your SA that your 156 engine has a known reputation for cam wear. Tell him that your idle had been acting strange not long before this gasket issue. You would be telling him this just make sure they actually inspect for cam wear.
Good luck, and you just made me feel pretty good about my $4k extended warranty!!

Never own a Benz out of warranty let alone an amg
Congrats ... I gladly ... GLADLY paid $2600 for a 7/75 warranty for the 63... Transferable and will DEFINITELY pay for itself ... Not "if" it breaks down but "WHEN", LOL

I did this so that I could get the extended warranty that they offered. I had 2 months left of mfg warranty left but for unknown reasons MB wouldn't give the option to buy the extended warranty.
I paid $3,800 for 7/75k bumper to bumper. I read over all the fine print and it looks pretty good. Basically the same as the MB extended warranty.
My deductible is $250 though. Not sure what the MB deductible is. Peter?
Good news is that the deductible is PER VISIT to the shop. So if I blow a head bolt, and they discover I have a radiator leak too, the entire repair is still $250.
Lesson here is that unless your issue is unsafe or really annoying, wait until you have a few things that need fixing when you go in!

I financed only about $10k on my 2011 e63 that I just picked up about 3 months ago with my credit union.

There is no deductible on the Benz ELW.
