Pretty cool the Add one Quart Oil Feature on Display on E63
Just got this message yesterday and been 6K miles since last oil change and sure enough it was down a quart. Too bad all cars don't have this. I use to run Auto Service Centers and so many times cars would come in with major lifter noise or even rod knocks and be 4 or 5 quarts of oil. A feature like this could have saved a lot of motors. You spend more money up front for a car like a benz but get a lot more features and a better driving experience.

Yes I've had the car now 2.5 years now and first quart I've had to add. I had been doing the oil changes every 6000 miles but now doing them every 10K miles as called for so I'll probably be seeing more of the message in the future, looks like I go through a quart every 6K miles which is not bad.

I change the oil on my E63 every 3,500 miles, so it never pops up.

wow mine too - oil never drops (touch wood) despite over 6 months and a good amount of driving sensibly and occasionally aggressively.
I hear mixed reports on the oil consumption thing. While I am aware that performance engines can use up to a quart of oil every 1000 miles, it seems like the M156 has some engines which do and some that don't. Then again...similar story on different engines on other cars too.
I guess it might come down to the age old story of how the engine was initially broken in when it was first fired up. On honed cylinders, the rings need to seat well against the cross-hatched pattern. However I'm not sure exactly how it all works with MMC lined bores.
