2012 W218 Production Numbers
New MBZ owner and new to site.
I've asked MBZ of US on several occasions for information on the production numbers for my vehicle.
Each time they respond that they do not know.
How is that remotely possible that they don't know how many vehicles they made?
1) Please direct me to the source.
2) How do you find your engines "M" designation?
Thanks in Advance.............

MB simply doesn't like to share production numbers any more. These figures used to be fairly readily available up to 2010 then they keep everything tight lipped. It'll be hard to find out any info on production numbers at this point.
The 5.5L V8 biturbo is an M157 engine. The 6.2L V8 NA is an M156.

I know it doesn't make any sense why they need to be secretive.
They've made their money.....
Perhaps they're trying to avoid answering the question 10k times a day.
Just post it... what's the big deal?

I agree it's dumb. But it is what it is. We can now only secretly find out production numbers from certain press releases like when the W205 C63 was announced, they said they sold like 40k W204 C63. Sometimes we can find out certain production numbers for more special cars like the SLS or Black Series cars... but this info is more or less hidden within the AMG Private Lounge.
I'd post a question asking in the Private Lounge though and just see what happens. You might get lucky.
Also keep in mind production numbers aren't always accurate. For example the 2007 R63 (back when they released production numbers). MBUSA said they made 44, AMG Private Lounge reported 30, but when some guy dug through the MB Computers he found there were actually 108 made for the US. To this day I don't know how that guy was able to find out through the MB Computers but his number seemed the most accurate as he broke down how many of each exterior and interior color combo were made, something that even MBUSA and AMG don't tell us.
Short answer- you won't find it. Long answer- you might find it.

During the 08-09 crisis sales of high end vehicles were halved to the extent that there is no 2010 SL USA model year. That has a major impact in share prices and the ability to borrow money and keep biz going...
So, they must do that to protect projections in tough years.
