CLS 550 or CLS 63 AMG?

Hello new to the forum so i apologize for the dum questions.

I am gonna be very candid

I have enough $$$$ for a CLS 550 ...not enough funds for a CLS 63 AMG at this time..purchase date March 2008.

Here is my question if I get the AMG i will be tight on $$$ for mods for at least a year...but if i buy the CLS 550 i am do the major mods right away.

What would you do?I love the aggressiveness of the Amg and the horse power.

But then i think i can dish out $$$$ to do up the CLS 550 and make it look tough.

HELP and sorry for the dum qustion

Instead of spending a ton of money on the CLS550, just spend it now and get the AMG, it's a blast . Also, you'll get all the AMG goodies that you won't get with simple performance upgrades on the CLS550, such as: AMG suspension, steering wheel, paddle shifters, tuned transmission (SpeedShift), the best quad-exhaust note yet, AMG Nappa leather, AMG badge , etc........

Just stick with CLS63 or at least CLS55 if you're into modding. Trust me, you won't be disapointed. If you don't believe me, go drive one now......

We have had this topic many times. I think almost ANY AMG owner will tell you that there is no way in hell that you can get the same performance/looks for less than the AMG stock upgrade. It would cost you nearly twice as much and a very badly voided warranty to even come close. Just buy a used 63 if you can and call it a day. These things lose a lot of value very quickly so by next march you should be able to find a slightly used one for less than a new 550.
Cheers.

A 2008 CLS 63 AMG you can get for about 90-93K(am i correct) now?

How much would i be able to get a 07 with low miles i am talking uber 5K in March 2008?

Or do you think i can a used 08 in the 80Ks?

Sorry to jump in here, but that 90 to 93k figure seems a bit low.

I think MSRP for an 08 CLS63 (reasonably optioned) is between $100k to $104k, which means you can probably get one for $96k to $98k brand new.

A used 07 will definately be somewhere in the 80s, but not an 08

I would suggest a used 07 under 15k miles because even though it would be 1 year old, it is still fairly new. In addition, it has taken the biggest depreciation hit out of your pocket

Good luck.........

thanks MBFOREVER

I was thinking about the M5 or M6 but i think the M6 is not a very attractive car...the CLS has such beautiful lines...i will wait till March..i do some 07's wth 1000 miles for 83K which is a great deal

Wait till March and buy a used 07 CLS63 with 10K miles for around $78K fully optioned. You'll be MUCH happier that way. And btw, buy a white one

A new CLS 550 you can get for like 68K and a CLS 63 AMG for 100K...is it really worth the 30K? Can you imagine what you could do with 30K to that CLS 550?

Just my 2 cents.

Unless you are buying a new CLS550 w no options (and why would you do that lol), you will not get a 550 for 68k. Like you, I am not into modding, and would prefer a factory optioned sport model over aftermarket. That being said, the used AMG model is the best choice if you can deal with a used car...

only options IMO are...a used CLS55 or used CLS63..wouldn't even consider a new CLS550 with the way the 55's are selling for right now

No Matter What !!!! Go AMG.

One of my friends SL-Chick has an 07 SL550.
She just had the worst buyers regret after she drove my 05 SL55.

"I can`t believe I did not get the AMG" "What was I thinking?"

The build quality and the handmade engine are so worth the extra $$.
The handling between the 2 cars is night and day difference.
If your going to spend big bucks on a car. Go all the way. Do it right !

Find an off lease CLS63 and go used.

Why not just buy a slightly used CLS55? I will never understand why people buy new 550's instead of slightly used 55's...

The CLS55 AMG was the predecessor to the CLS63 AMG. As the 55 AMG Kompressor engine was nearing the end of its life cycle (2003 to 2006), Mercedes released the CLS55 AMG just in time to grap a piece of that legendary engine. Then in 2007, the new 6.2L Naturally Aspirated AMG 63 engine came out and replaced the 55 Kompressor engines.

Here on the boards, there are a lot of heated debates between which car (and engine) is better: 55 kompressor or 63 naturally aspirated (aka CLS55 vs CLS63 or E55 vs E63). After many long debates, dyno analysis, and actual tests at the track, many people are realizing that both cars are surprisingly close in performance. It basically comes down to the driver.

Here are some notes on both:

CLS/E/SL/CL/S 55 AMG
=================

- Has a colassaul low end torque delivery that is available very early in the low rpm range, and stays fairly flat until 5k to 6k rpm.
- Overall, the 55 kompressor engine provides 50 to 60 ft lbs of torque more than the 63 engine, which gives the driver this brute force feeling when smashing the gas pedal.
- Rough engagement of the supercharger (when flooring the gas pedal) provides this jerky power shifting experience (such as in manual and sports super cars). Some have complained about this due to the shifts being too jerky .
- The 55 kompressor engine can be so easily modified for much cheaper than the 63 engine. And, as many members here on the boards have shown, the engine responds very well to mods

CLS/E/SL/CL/S 63 AMG
=================

- Big 6.2 liter naturally aspirated V8 engine gives the driver a much bigger rpm range to play with .
- Linear power delivery combined with 7 speed transmission results in "smooth" acceleration and a strong top-end power (better gearing).
- Very hard and very expensive to mod the engine.
- Newer engine (improved parts, materials, and overall better technoogy). Also provides longer warranty periods.
- Better exhaust note.

Have you driven both? If not, do so asap.

If you still don't know at that point, get the 550.

maybe because people want to buy a new car, and also they want a v8 but no to bad on gas so that why people might buy 550, shoot i bought to 550.
