QUESTION ON MY GPS AND AN UPDATE FOR IT...
My 2006 CLS55 AMG GPS system is way out of date. Doesn't even have my HOA that has been here in Ocala since 1985.
Question on an update CDROM. How can you tell you are buying a current map? Or, do they just update it every now and then? Since most of the older GPS' rely on a huge map database if you buy one update, does that allow you to keep getting updates for a certain period of time? Or, do you have to keep on laying out $250 big ones for every update.
I currently use WAZE on my iPhone and it is pretty damn amazing. It stays up to date as everyone who uses it updates the WAZE database when they run across mistakes or changes. It even warns you about cops and cars beside the road and accidents. It is really accurate and timely.
For any electronic gurus. Is it possible to get the WAZE app on my iPhone to show up on my in dash Mercedes GPS display?
Thanks ... Popeye

I also use WAZE sometimes because the AMG GPS gives me an address range instead of the exact addressl.

I'm pretty sure WAZE is going to feature out anything you'd find in an update GPS disk for the AMG. I am also pretty sure it cannot interface to your AMG's screen.

I suspected as much. Shame to have such an inaccurate GPS right in the middle of a 10 year old mechanical masterpiece. Sure hope the Mercedes pays more attention to the GPS' on the later models...
Cheers

I have the same issue, my development hasnt been around as long as yours, but its been over 10 years, and it isnt in my GPS either. Neither are many of the surrounding roads that have been re-routed and extended over the years. Its not so much of a problem locally, but once I actually go somewhere I am not familiar with, i can see it causing a problem. also that address range thing is complete nonsense.
that being said, there are ways to get other devices, be it iPhones, Android, PCs, whatever to appear on the COMAND screen. A good friend of mine owns an A/V shop and no longer uses any of the COMAND functions of his E55 aside from the screen, everything else is aftermarket display and functionality, but it is not a cheap route by any means. Plus you also lose some of the functionality, like the buttons on the side of the screen, since at that point you are just using the screen as a display.
Im sure there are more people who can give more detailed information into the aftermarket options, but it is not an easy change unfortunately.

Think I'll be plugging in my iPhone with WAZE

Took me a few months to get everything working as it should on this 10 year old pristine gem I stole from BMW Ocala, so I think rather than mucking with the onboard GPS, I'll just put it on map so it's pretty, then put my iPhone in the cupholder with my power cord plugged into the cig lighter socket and make like it's working ...

GOT GPS UPDATE TODAY & IT WORKS FINE ...
A big thank you to Ravi for his 2014 GPS update CD. Got it this afternoon and put it in the player with the car off. Just opened the trunk took the old one out and the new one in. Then I went and watched some TV. Came back about two hours later, turned on the maps and saw two progress bars one above the other. They looked unfinished. So I went back to AUDIO and then back to NAV and a map was there, although I didn't recognize anything but one street.
Soon discovered by hitting the button in the lower left side that the buttons screen labels were working and that I was just zoomed way out. So I zoomed in and voila there's my street. First time since I had the car.
Anyway it works fine and I'm giving a big thank you to Ravi ...
