Here’s a rarity – finding a real AMG in a junkyard.

Well, that’s according to Murilee Martin, a writer for Autoweek who spends a lot of time in wrecking yards while on the hunt for such diamonds in the rough.

Apparently, Martin came across the CLK 55 AMG not long after it was placed in a self-serve junkyard in Denver. But it wasn’t until the writer researched the car’s VIN number on his cell phone that he realized it was an authentic AMG, and not some rebadged Mercedes.

The payoff? According to Martin, every special piece of the car is worth five to ten times more than what the yard will charge, right down to the CLK 55’s AMG badging. One of the biggest consumer markets for the stuff are tuners who own regular CLKs and are looking to add a few AMG features to their own cars.

After all, paying a couple of hundred bucks or so for a few AMG parts is a lot less expensive than paying for an actual CLK 55 AMG.
