AMG War Horses Carve Brutal Warpath at GTC Rally in Europe
Airstrip racing event in the Netherlands was usurped by a quintet of speed demon Benzes bent on total domination.
The GTC Rally is a regular fixture in the Netherlands. The rally itself starts at Breda International Airport for the “Nacht van Achtmaal” – a 14-hour drive to the town of Achtmaal on the border of Belgium. Before the rally event even starts though, the Dutch have themselves an automotive festival. There’s a short rally, a historic and legends rally, a car show, a rev battle and, recorded by the Lars Mars Cars YouTube channel, drag racing on the airstrip.
The lineup for the racing caught by this video is pretty impressive, but the highlight for us is seeing the AMG badged cars flying down the quarter-mile. We can quickly see the AMG GT S isn’t a slayer out of the hole against a BMW, but that’s not the really the GT’s party piece in any trim level. The frenetic build up of torque and horsepower that build together to take the win is. And as such, the AMG GT S takes the glorious win.
They even go for another round, but try as it may, the E90 just couldn’t outpace the 577-horsepower AMG bruiser. Funnily enough, the same GT S goes up against the E92 M3’s bigger sibling, the F10 M5, and gives it the same humiliating smackdown.
The beatings keep on rolling in for that same F10, too. A dark gray CLS63 AMG rolls in like a sleek panther and assassinates it like it’s pure fodder. Definitely not the most enjoyable experience for the BMW driver, either.
Then, we have another AMG GT S going up against its cousin, an AMG C63, for some friendly sparing. As with it’s twin, the GT S simply does not have enough torque from the starting line to keep up with the brutish C63, and is left in the dust.
However a white, 800-HP AMG E63 S comically smacks down a supercharged orange Lamborghini Huracan not one, but twice in a row. It also lays waste to yellow Ferrari Italia 458 with no mercy. All of the competitors must be choking from AMG’s painstaking dominance at this point.
All this winning by AMG just goes to show is that Mercedes cars are remarkably effective on the drag strip. It also shows us just how well-rounded the AMG GT is in any guise. Also, in the title of the video, they call the Honda Civic a sleeper, but nobody is fooled by the sight and sound of a Civic tuned for the dragstrip. An E63 Mercedes with an AMG heart and a bit of a tune though… now that’s a sleeper.
