2009 Mercedes-Benz E550 vs. 2009 Lexus GS460
The 2009 Mercedes Benz E550 enjoys some pleasant criticism: apparently its front seats, with their comfort headrests, are “dangerously relaxing”. If you are feeling a little sleepy while shopping for your next luxury sedan, start with the 2009 Lexus GS460. It is very comfortable in its own right, and the invoice might get your heart jumping again.
The 2009 Mercedes Benz E550 has plenty of good qualities but
hypermiling is not one of them: 13 mpg in the city. Its 5.5 liter
engine, developing 382 bhp, is involved in a love-hate relationship
with fuel economy; it just begs to be driven…fast. However, the
opulence should numb the pain on those frequent, quick, and expensive
trips to the gas station.
The 2009 Lexus GS460 is much cheaper, and the savings add up off the lot as well, getting 4 mpg more
than the E550. While its 4.6 liter engine, predictably weaker, only falls
off by 40 horses.
