AMS Alpha CLA45 AMG Sets Quarter-Mile Record
The baby AMG CLA45 AMG might only have four cylinders, but as we know, it packs a big punch. Tuning company AMS has been toying around with one recently, in different states of tune for pump gas and racing fuel. What they have created is the Alpha CLA45 AMG, a monster that’ll make a brand new Corvette sweat with anxiety.
Surprisingly, quite little was done mechanically to the car. A front and side heat exchanger were added, in addition to Alpha’s own down-pipe. A Carbon fiber intake houses a dry media air filter, and Alpha’s CLA tune ties everything together. What do all those mods yield in terms of results? On pump fuel, you’re looking at 386 horsepower and 418 lb/ft of torque. But the real fun happens when you turn it up to 11.
On race fuel, the CLA puts out 454 horsepower and 491 in the torque department. That’s outrageous, which is exactly why they took this video. Byron Drag Way in Byron, Illinois was the track used for the test. Using launch control (which sounds like a pulse jet) the 11.68 run backs up the horsepower claims. A 117.15 trap speed backs up the torque figures.
