Australia Highway Patrol Lands a Mercedes-AMG E43

Mercedes-AMG E43 will be used to showcase safety technology at local events.

Here’s one cool way to recruit law enforcement officers. Although we imagine using the Mercedes-AMG E43 to entice potential candidates for a police force could eventually wind up breaking the budget of most municipalities.

Fortunately, this E43 equipped to patrol city streets has a more limited agenda. And it doesn’t require a department to invest in more than one car.

According to The Drive, the high-performance Mercedes was purchased by the Victoria Police Highway Patrol in Australia. It’s primarily being used as a tool to promote automotive safety by highlighting features like the car’s collision avoidance tech.

Of course, what’s the purpose of having an AMG E43 on hand if you never spend anytime driving it on the track, right? No doubt the officers see the multiple benefits of having a ballsy performer like this on hand. We imagine that made it pretty easy to find a volunteer for the department’s demonstration video posted below.

That said, we certainly hope that all the track time used to pull the promotional clip together wasn’t restricted to those safe speeds advertised. After all, what’s the point of having a badge, free track time, and an AMG if you can’t fully appreciate the vehicle’s performance features?

The Victoria Police Highway Patrol will keep the Mercedes-AMG for a year. After that, they’ll return the car back to the Mercedes. Here’s hoping they make the best of those 12 months.
