C63 AMG Crushes a C7 Corvette in the Quarter Mile

By -

A lightly modified Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG makes short work of a C7 Corvette in a quarter mile drag race.

The Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG is powered by a naturally aspirated, 6.2L V8 that produces 451 horsepower and 443lb-ft of torque in stock form. The C7 Chevrolet Corvette is powered by a naturally aspirated, 6.2L V8 that produces 460 horsepower and 460lb-ft of torque. On paper, the Corvette has an advantage in power and when the two cars are driven by equally skilled drivers, the Chevy should have a slight edge at the finish line.

On the other hand, when a well-driven C63 takes on a poorly driven Corvette, the result is a whoopin’ for the Chevy.

C63 –vs- C7

The video above was originally posted in the C63 AMG (W204) section by skratch77 from the New England Dragway Street Nights YouTube channel. This short clip features his Mercedes-Benz racing a C7 Chevrolet Corvette at Epping Drag Strip Street Night with surprising results.

C63 vs C7 Corvette

There are no details on the C63 AMG accompanying the video, but in looking at some of the OP’s recent posts, it looks as though this monster Mercedes has a handful of bolt-on modifications. This includes a cold air intake setup, headers, high-flow cats and a straight-pipe exhaust system, although these runs may have been made without the cats, as the OP was talking about removing them in a post shortly before this racing action took place.

In any case, the video begins with the white C63 AMG and the white C7 Corvette staged at the starting line and ready to run. As the lights come down, the Corvette lurches forward and redlights, then lifts a bit. When the green light drops for the AMG, it rips away from the line as the Corvette climbs back into the throttle, but the crummy launch was too much for the Stingray to overcome.

The Corvette driver seems to continue to struggle as they head down track, allowing the Mercedes-Benz to continue to pull away. In the end, the C63 beats the C7 so badly that we don’t get to see what the Chevy runs – but the Benz lays down a 12.25 at just shy of 119 miles per hour.

"Before I was old enough to walk, my dad was taking me to various types of racing events, from local drag racing to the Daytona 500," says Patrick Rall, a lifetime automotive expert, diehard Dodge fan, and respected auto journalist for over 10 years. "He owned a repair shop and had a variety of performance cars when I was young, but by the time I was 16, he was ready to build me my first drag car – a 1983 Dodge Mirada that ran low 12s. I spent 10 years traveling around the country, racing with my dad by my side. While we live in different areas of the country, my dad still drag races at 80 years old in the car that he built when I was 16 while I race other vehicles, including my 2017 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat and my 1972 Dodge Demon 340.

"Although I went to college for accounting, my time in my dad’s shop growing up allowed me the knowledge to spend time working as a mechanic before getting my accounting degree, at which point I worked in the office of a dealership group. While I was working in the accounting world, I continued racing and taking pictures of cars at the track. Over time, I began showing off those pictures online and that led to my writing.

"Ten years ago, I left the accounting world to become a full-time automotive writer and I am living proof that if you love what you do, you will never “work” a day in your life," adds Rall, who has clocked in time as an auto mechanic, longtime drag racer and now automotive journalist who contributes to nearly a dozen popular auto websites dedicated to fellow enthusiasts.

"I love covering the automotive industry and everything involved with the job. I was fortunate to turn my love of the automotive world into a hobby that led to an exciting career, with my past of working as a mechanic and as an accountant in the automotive world provides me with a unique perspective of the industry.

"My experience drag racing for more than 20 years coupled with a newfound interest in road racing over the past decade allows me to push performance cars to their limit, while my role as a horse stable manager gives me vast experience towing and hauling with all of the newest trucks on the market today.

"Being based on Detroit," says Rall, "I never miss the North American International Auto Show, the Woodward Dream Cruise and Roadkill Nights, along with spending plenty of time raising hell on Detroit's Woodward Avenue with the best muscle car crowd in the world.
