Are These Teaser Images Proof of an Ultra-Luxe Mercedes EQE Interior?

It looks like the EQ line is about to get a lot more decadent.

There’s a lot we know about Mercedes’ new, all-electric EQ line – and then, there’s a lot we don’t. For example, we’ve already gotten pretty good looks at the upcoming EQB and EQC models. Both are production-ready, and both will be here by 2020. As for the rest of the EQ lineup – well, that’s about it. Mercedes plans on having an additional eight EQ models in production by 2025, and in the automotive world, that’s right around the corner. So when Mercedes teased a new EQ interior ahead of the Frankfurt Motor Show, we took notice.

Forgive us for stating the obvious, but it looks pretty nice in there. And this is an important clue; it leads us to believe that this cabin may belong to the upcoming EQE, which is expected to slot higher upmarket than the B- and C-crossovers. Speaking with Autocar in June, a source within Mercedes said: “The EQE will be shorter in length than today’s E-Class, but offer space comparable to the existing S-Class.” To us, this interior fits that bill. What’s more, the EQE is slated to launch in 2022, making late 2019 the perfect time for us to get a look at the pre-production version.

The Future of Luxury

To our eye, the cabin has echoes of the Vision Mercedes-Maybach Coupe concept of 2018. There are the dramatically-sculpted white seats (buckets in this instance) that seem to float above the cabin floor, the stylized center console that runs the length of the cabin, the wraparound dash, and the integrated screens placed throughout.

Despite a lack of virtually any new information accompanying the sketches, all signs point to EQE. In their terse press release accompanying the photos, Mercedes says: “EQ story continues. We’re pioneering the future of sustainable modern luxury. See the interior design vision of an all-electric four seater luxury sedan.” As Jalopnik points out, this also tracks with another recent press release teasing a new EQ sedan.

Could Mercedes throw us a curve and have this be for a completely new, as-yet-unannounced car? Of course. But you don’t need to know how to read tea leaves to see that this is likely the best look we’ve gotten to date of the EQE. And if the new E-Class-sized sedan is packing a high-torque electric powertrain and an interior like this? Well, consider us excited. Very excited.
