Daily Driven Exotics Turns an AMG E55 Into a Burnout Machine

What better way to send off old tires than with a smoke-filled Viking funeral?

When your AMG is driven all year round, swapping out tires is a semi-annual ritual, with the most fun swap coming in spring time. Damon Fryer over at Daily Driven Exotics on YouTube did exactly that swap with a friend’s AMG E55. However, the summer rubber swapped back on to the car was on its last few miles of life. Since those tires still held air, the opportunity for massive smoke presented itself. Time to make some noise.

“OK guys, we are going to cook these wheels on the E55,” said Fryer as he begins to hop in the car. From certain angles, it looks like a great burnout but it’s discovered after that, strangely, it was a one-wheel-peel. The dreaded one tire fire. They tried a few more burnouts on the old, bald-tread tires, and found that rolling starts are ok, but the open differential in the E55 was limited when stationary due to the electronic differential technology in AMG traction control.

Soon after, the balding tire starts hissing. This made things a bit interesting since they were driving it to a tire shop to have a new set of rubber mounted and balanced. Jumping in the car in a rush, Fryer says “we’re screwed! I don’t know if this thing’s making it.” Despite the feverish drive to the shop, they make it with a tiny bit of air left. Mission accomplished!

Evidence of the burnout madness was all over the back and sides of the car, which they discovered after the new rubber was swapped on. Oh well, we are sure they would do it all over again, and we can’t think of a better way to send off a set of rear AMG E55 tires.
