According to the latest news from Mercedes-Benz, the S350 BlueTEC will now be equipped with ECO Start Stop technology as a standard feature. Owners will also be delighted to hear that the model line will also be a lot more efficient and emit even less emissions than its predecessor.

Underneath the hood lies a 3.0 liter six pot engine that runs on diesel. It is capable of churning out 258 hp and 620 Nm of torque to the rear wheels. What’s really amazing is that it runs 100km on every 6.2 liters of fuel. Now, it’s worth mentioning that without the upgraded fuel system, this engine will be registering a 34.6 US mpg fuel economy, which roughly translates to travelling 100 km for every 6.8 liters of fuel.

The engine is built around the BlueTEC system which, coupled with AdBlue exhaust treatment, makes the S 350 compliant to Euro VI emission standards. Numbers acquired from emissions testing are 164 grams of CO2 produced per kilometer of road travelled. That is a huge improvement from the previous engine configuration, which rated at 177 grams per kilometer of driving.

The new engine is also a lot lighter than its predecessor. It uses TWAS or twin-wire-arc-sprayed coating technology, which brings down weight by as much as 4.3kg. Efficiency improvement has been pegged at 3 percent from the old version of the engine. Long story short, ECO Start Stop technology is the icing on the cake.
