Mercedes EQC Spied Testing at Nurburgring Track
Mercedes EQC might be large and battery-powered, but that doesn’t mean it’s slow. Not by a long shot.
After years of failed promises, we’re finally at a point where the EV market is really heating up. With Tesla currently enjoying a virtual monopoly on the all-electric market, other automakers are beginning to threaten that stranglehold with a host of impressive products. The latest? The Mercedes EQC, an SUV that represents the legendary German manufacturer’s very first all-electric vehicle.
We’re only roughly a year from the arrival of this groundbreaking machine, in fact. Which makes it no surprise that Automotive Mike recently caught footage of a Mercedes EQC mule testing at the legendary Nurburgring. But don’t think that this is a lazy test drive in some boring, tree hugging hippie ride. The driver of the EQC mule is more than happy to squeal the tires around the world’s most famous track.
And that’s no surprise, given the crossover’s large 70 kWh battery and powerful twin electric motors. The powerplant duo, one mounted on each axle fore and aft, deliver a combined 402 hp and 516 lb-ft of torque. That’s good enough for an impressive 0-62 time of under 5 seconds. Range is expected to be an equally impressive 310 miles.
All of those stats compare favorably to the Jaguar I-Pace and its 394 hp/513 lb-ft ratings. The Mercedes EQC is every bit as powerful, yet also delivers a substantially better range than the Jag’s 240 mile rating. So even though M-B is seemingly a little late to the EV game, it’s going to deliver a very competitive product.
Now we’re just waiting for the official unveiling of this groundbreaking ride. Judging by all the testing they’ve completed thus far, that day shouldn’t be too far off in the future.
