Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series

Fast-paced 30-second clip may be more than enough hype for the GT Black Series, though it’s the AMG One cameo that steals the show.

Only a handful of Mercedes-AMG models were ever made into the ultimate track machine. The Black Series family cast aside as much luxury as possible in order to boost performance far beyond driven. The result? Legends never to be forgotten, from the SLS AMG Black Series of the New ’10s, to today’s GT Black Series.

Speaking of, the GT Black Series recently turned up in a hype video from Mercedes-AMG, donned in the brand’s exclusive Magma Beam paint. However, there’s a cameo that not even the hardcore track machine can outshine.

Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series

“The Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series is a true original,” the company says. “Featuring intuitive active dynamics, its uncompromising engineering paired with unprecedented performance will give you the ride of your life.”

And what a ride? The poor chap has no idea what he’s in for when his date rolls up in the fiery orange GT Black Series. After all, the 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 under the long hood sends 730 horses and 590 lb-ft of torque to the rear. That’s enough power to wilt the bouquet of flowers he hoped to give her in a cloud of tire smoke. Throw in some carbon fiber, aggressive aero, and a banging exhaust, and it’s all wild and merry upon the highway.

Of course, that’s nothing compared to what awaits the lad at the end of the ride. His girlfriend’s already out of the GT Black Series with the keys to something special: the AMG One. It looks a bit like the CLK GTR from the mid-1990s, but it’s best described as an Formula One car in street clothes.

The secret to this One is the four electric motors and a 1.6-liter turbo V6. Combined, they deliver 1,001 horsepower to the senses, and the street. Alas, all 275 copies (each priced at around $2.72 million) have been spoken for already. Deliveries are scheduled to start in 2021. Whether any of us will be as luck as this couple is to see and experience the One, though, is up to fate.
