Is the Mercedes-Benz SL55 AMG a Bargain or a Boobytrap?
“In the game of golf, having the right set of clubs is just as important as making sure you have the proper swing technique. Now while I’m not going to give out any pointers, because I’m terrible at golf, I can talk about what I see driving away from many golf courses that I come across. The Mercedes SL,” says Jason Conor, as he aptly begins The Hooniverse video below.
Connor perfectly illustrates the natural habitat for the Mercedes SL. Golf courses around the country are filled with them. However, because of the model’s ubiquity, the used-market is littered with every possibly option and trim level. Yet of all the SLs on the market, the SL55 AMG has been hit with the highest depreciation across the lineup. So if you want to be a baller on a budget, these cars make the perfect ride. Or do they.
These early Kompressor cars are notoriously finicky, and have the habit of draining your bank account faster than Taylor Swift can write a song about a breakup. Electrical systems were especially screwy during this time period. However, you’d still have a supercharged, V8 Mercedes roadster that can hit 155mph like it was nothing.
So what do you do? Let Jason explain.
