Is the Mercedes-Benz SL55 AMG a Bargain or a Boobytrap?

Connor perfectly illustrates the natural habitat for the Mercedes SL. Golf courses around the country are filled with them. However, because of the model’s ubiquity, the used-market is littered with every possibly option and trim level. Yet of all the SLs on the market, the SL55 AMG has been hit with the highest depreciation across the lineup. So if you want to be a baller on a budget, these cars make the perfect ride. Or do they.

These early Kompressor cars are notoriously finicky, and have the habit of draining your bank account faster than Taylor Swift can write a song about a breakup. Electrical systems were especially screwy during this time period. However, you’d still have a supercharged, V8 Mercedes roadster that can hit 155mph like it was nothing.
