Maybach S650 Edmunds Review: ‘Totally Worth It…If You Have the Money’
Though buying a Maybach is frivolous in every sense of the word, the amenities it offers are brilliant, regardless of your social class.
In the wild world of capitalism, everything is worth exactly as much as someone else is willing to pay for it. So it doesn’t really make sense for Mark Takahashi of Edmunds to ask if the Mercedes-Benz Maybach S650 is worth the $200k+ asking price in the above video from the company’s official YouTube page. But what does make sense is the immense smile you’ll have on your face from watching this review. Takahashi does his best Top Gear Jeremy Clarkson-esque review by being his own doppelganger, playing both driver and passenger.
From piloting the big 6.0-liter V12 in the driver’s seat, to piloting caviar into his mouth from the rear seat, Mark nails this review. All the big headlines are covered; the Magic Ride Control and the massaging seats, and lots of little features are also touched on, like the self adjusting cabin scents based on the “mood” the back passenger has chosen.
Most importantly though, there is a lot of time spent on why this car is pointless, and why it doesn’t matter that it’s pointless. The Maybach S650 trim exists purely as a status symbol, and when you are looking to blow that much money on a car, the only thing that matters is what you want. Sure, you could stretch your budget and move up to a Rolls Royce, or you could just save some money and get a normal S-Class, but that misses the entire point.
As we said earlier, things are worth what someone will pay for them, and that makes the Mercedes-Benz Maybach S650 worth every red cent. You should probably still run through cheaper options, though.
