MBWorld Tears Up the Track at the Endurance ChampCar Race
Weekend Race
Saturday’s race on August 25 started in very wet conditions, and stayed that way up to the halfway point of the race. Racing in the rain wasn’t exactly much fun, and lap times slowed considerably. But the 190 E clicked away lap after lap, making for a total of 207 laps, and running for seven hours and 46 minutes. For Class-C, this was good enough for 9th place.
Sunday, August 26 was a much more bizarre day. It started with an hour-long delay for a thick fog that had moved in. This was followed by a one hour “quiet time” racing break to accommodate Sunday services at a nearby church. Once those morning pauses were over, the race got underway. Sadly, an impact tore up the front of the car part way into the race.
And then the issue with third gear became a significant problem with just one hour to go. Something in the linkage had broken, and with so little time left to fix it, the team had to throw in the towel after just 143 laps. That set them back to 28th overall, 44 laps behind the overall leader.
Not to worry though. The team already has more races in mind by the end of the year and plans on doing a swap of both the engine and transmission during the off-season.
