Mercedes Tops ‘Most Mentioned’ Car and Brand in Songs List

Musicians have always loved to name drop cars in their songs, but no brand has as many references as Mercedes does.

Since the very beginning of cars and music, the two have gone together like peanut butter and jelly. And why wouldn’t they? Music is a form of expression, a way to talk about one’s passions in life. And we as human beings possess a passion for automobiles that’s unrivaled by virtually anything else. Thus, musicians have been singing/rapping/name dropping car models for decades. But in this interesting study by the Gold Eagle blog, it appears that no automaker or specific model have been mentioned in songs as frequently as Mercedes.

They know this because they went to the immense trouble of analyzing over 100,000 songs to find out. If nothing else, you have to admire that kind of dedication. And their research wasn’t just limited to car models and artists, either. They also searched for any various automotive jargon to find out what artists are the most car obsessed.

Mercedes S-Class

So what did they find in that massive pile of music? Well, a grand total of 72,000 songs by 13,000 artists mentioned some sort of car-related term. And as you might imagine, hip hop artists dominated those findings, accounting for 94% of all musicians who make automotive references in their songs.

But it might surprise you that among all car models, the Mercedes S-Class is the most mentioned. Not only that, but Mercedes is the also most referenced brand. And it isn’t even close. In fact, 4,746 songs name drop the iconic luxury automaker, way ahead of second place Cadillac at 2,923.

And in case you’re worried about inflated numbers by some low-level artists, fear not. Legendary rapper Nas tops the list as the artist who most frequently references Mercedes in general. Anybody who’s a fan of the Queens, New York native knows that he’s got a thing for M-B. Heck, he even recently commissioned an old school custom 190E build from Unique Rides. And who are we to argue with that logic?
