How Does the Mercedes-AMG C43 Cabriolet Handle the Rain?
Mercedes-AMG has included plenty of nice touches, which make the C43 Cabriolet work even better with the top up.
Recently, the guys over at Cars.co.za released their video review above of the new Mercedes-AMG C43 Cabriolet. They anticipated a great day to put the top down on the convertible and drive around Cape Town. Unfortunately, it rained on their filming parade, and they had to test the convertible mostly with the top up. Not ideal by any stretch of the imagination.
However, it did allow for the reviewers to experience the convertible in conditions that would be most normal for consumers. The sad truth about convertibles, especially if the car is your daily driver, is that you spend a lot of time with the top up, and not in convertible mode. As the reviewer points out, the C43 Cabriolet has plenty of nice finishing touches that make this enjoyable, for the most part. The luxurious bells and whistles — like the heated seats and the Airscarf system that blows light bits of warm air from the headrest onto your neck — make the car very comfortable to sit in, even on cold days.

The reviewer does mention a few negatives. But honestly, he makes his bias known up front, when he says he doesn’t care for convertibles when the tops are down. With the top down, the C43 Cabriolet loses a fair amount of trunk space, which is to be expected. He also mentions the lack of rear passenger space, and a generally noisy driving experience.
Of course, one could argue that you’re buying a luxury convertible, presumably as a fun car to drive. So those negatives probably won’t even be a concern to most buyers, especially since most convertibles suffer from these drawbacks.
In the end, the rain cleared up and the reviewer was able to put the top down, and he admitted that it drove better and felt great. So, will the car perform well with the top up? Of course, it’s still a luxury Mercedes, but its best to be enjoyed with the top down on a sunny day, where you can fully experience the joy of the C43 Cabriolet.
