Mercedes-AMG E63 S Ferries Vlogger Through Texas By Itself

YouTuber shows off the Mercedes-AMG E63 S’ autonomous driving system on the highways of Austin.

Joe Knows Best’s Joe Benedettini opens the video not with his Mercedes-AMG E63 S, but with stacks of mail heading to parts unknown. Not exactly what one would expect upon seeing the title of the video, but we digress.

After what seems like an eternity filled with mail deliveries, partying and procrastination (the first five minutes of the video, in case you’d like to skip ahead, which we would recommend), Benedettini finally gets around to talking about how his E63 S is a better Tesla than Tesla, especially on the self-driving front.

“For a long time, if you wanted a self-driving car, you had to buy a Tesla,” Benedettini explains. “Mercedes kinda slipped in what they call ‘DISTRONIC PLUS,’ which is pretty much just Tesla’s Autopilot, without anyone really knowing.”

Benedettini adds that there are a few caveats to DISTRONIC PLUS, such as not allowing the driver to simply sit back as the car goes from A to B, nor will the car stop at stop lights and stop signs (which he claims he found out “the hard way”). Instead, he says the system allows the car to maintain a safe distance from the car ahead of it while staying in or change lanes with little interaction from the driver.

In other words, DISTRONIC PLUS makes his E63 S the perfect highway cruiser.

Benedettini says his car allows him to “send emails, check Instagram,” even film the very vlog we’re all watching now, all without his input (though he’s quick to say you probably shouldn’t try that at home). All in all, DISTRONIC PLUS is a handy driving aid, perfect for handling the boredom of commuting. Or vlogging.
