Damaged 2018 C63S Dark

Member seeks body shop advice after his brand new C63 S was mangled by a careless driver.

Imagine sitting at a stop sign in your 2018 Mercedes-Benz AMG C63S when a car turning from a side road careless slams into the side of your brand new car. That exact nightmare happened to forum member stevenxhl, who shared his miserable experience on the forum after someone slammed into his new Benz and then took off – leaving him to face the repairs on his own.

The Fateful Evening

The OP shared his experience a few months back, seeking advice on a good body shop after someone had run into his brand new C63S while he was sitting stationary at an intersection.

“Just got my brand new 2018 c63s coupe three weeks ago. I was literally waiting at the stop sign to make a right. A car made a left into my lane and literally drove towards me and hit my left panel and bumper with barely no stop. Then he drove away right after he hit me. Anyone has recommended body shop in New Jersey or NY area please?”

Based on that explanation, there is nothing that the OP could have done to protect his Mercedes, leaving him to watch helplessly as the careless driver smashed up his new AMG. However, the fact that the other driver immediately fled the scene – leaving the OP to deal with the repairs and the costs on his own – the story is that much more frustrating.

Members’ Condolences

As you might imagine, this is the type of situation that everyone was a nice car dreads, so many people were quick to share their support, even if they didn’t have advice on a shop.

Miamiboy:
“I would’ve chased him down until I got a plate number. Sorry to hear that tho man.”

spence88mph:
“Oh man!!! So sorry to this this, fix it up asap and move on…”

mras350b2:
“Sorry to hear that. Some people are POS! Get you a dash cam.”

Schulminator:
“MF’ers……………..no body has any respect for other people’s property. Sorry to hear, hope you can get it fixed up soon.”

AlexZTuned:
“That’s painful to look at.

Looks like the rear bumper, rear quarter panel, and rear wheel all got hit. Cosmetic repairs alone will likely be upwards of $15k. Hopefully there’s no mechanical damage!”

right_mr:
“Really sorry to see that damage on your vehicle. it is hard to take. i know it has been mentioned by others but i think a front and rear dashcam is something i dont ever go without on my AMG. I also have a tracker in my car should it be stolen. It is there for exactly this scenario ie an idiot collides with your vehicle and takes off. The one issue and major limitation a lot of dashcams have though is an inadequate parking mode battery life. a lot of scrapes take place when your vehicle is parked up somewhere.

Hope you catch the clown and sorry to see the damage.”

Requested Input

In addition to the other members paying their condolences, voicing their outrage and urging the OP to get a dash cam, one member had good input as to where to get the C63S repaired. He also included pictures of his own car after it had been fixed, along with a look at the extensive repair order information.

“Mercedes of Manhattan’s collision center was really great when I used them after my previous car (w204 c63) was in an accident.

It’s as close to factory as I think you could get. They are not a dealership really. They are the flagship facilities for MBUSA.”

"Before I was old enough to walk, my dad was taking me to various types of racing events, from local drag racing to the Daytona 500," says Patrick Rall, a lifetime automotive expert, diehard Dodge fan, and respected auto journalist for over 10 years. "He owned a repair shop and had a variety of performance cars when I was young, but by the time I was 16, he was ready to build me my first drag car – a 1983 Dodge Mirada that ran low 12s. I spent 10 years traveling around the country, racing with my dad by my side. While we live in different areas of the country, my dad still drag races at 80 years old in the car that he built when I was 16 while I race other vehicles, including my 2017 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat and my 1972 Dodge Demon 340.

"Although I went to college for accounting, my time in my dad’s shop growing up allowed me the knowledge to spend time working as a mechanic before getting my accounting degree, at which point I worked in the office of a dealership group. While I was working in the accounting world, I continued racing and taking pictures of cars at the track. Over time, I began showing off those pictures online and that led to my writing.

"Ten years ago, I left the accounting world to become a full-time automotive writer and I am living proof that if you love what you do, you will never “work” a day in your life," adds Rall, who has clocked in time as an auto mechanic, longtime drag racer and now automotive journalist who contributes to nearly a dozen popular auto websites dedicated to fellow enthusiasts.

"I love covering the automotive industry and everything involved with the job. I was fortunate to turn my love of the automotive world into a hobby that led to an exciting career, with my past of working as a mechanic and as an accountant in the automotive world provides me with a unique perspective of the industry.

"My experience drag racing for more than 20 years coupled with a newfound interest in road racing over the past decade allows me to push performance cars to their limit, while my role as a horse stable manager gives me vast experience towing and hauling with all of the newest trucks on the market today.

"Being based on Detroit," says Rall, "I never miss the North American International Auto Show, the Woodward Dream Cruise and Roadkill Nights, along with spending plenty of time raising hell on Detroit's Woodward Avenue with the best muscle car crowd in the world.
