Mercedes-AMG GT R Black Series Leaks, Looks Absolutely Sick

Mercedes Black Edition AMG GT R

Exclusive Black Series AMG is rumored to pack loads of performance, but the real question is how long will it take Jeremy Clarkson to buy one?

It’s finally happening, and it looks more menacing than we could have hoped. The new Mercedes-AMG GT R Black Series model has leaked on Instagram via race356. We spied various mules of this particular monster running around the Nurburgring for a while now, but to see the car in all its glory is something else entirely. True to the Black Series’ heritage of pushing a car as close to racing spec as possible while keeping it street legal, this AMG GT R model looks like a proper GT3 racer.

The Panamericana grille has been stretched and pulled to nearly double the size, increasing cooling for the twin-turbo V8. A full width splitter hangs off the chin, and thankfully it appears to have lost the cable supports seen on the test mules. Move out to the sides of that gaping maw and you can see a deeply cut air intakes that likely cool the brakes. Finally, a small set of canards on the outer edge add that last dash of racing flair. The fenders are stretched wide to accommodate bigger tires, and potentially a track increase also.  Integrated into the new wider stance is a massive side skirt that has obvious aerodynamic sculpting. Out back you’ll find four canon-sized exhaust pipes, a full rear splitter, more brake venting ducts, and a double-stack rear wing large enough to seat of family of four.

The most aggressive and interesting feature though is the hood. The entire assembly is full of cuts, sculpts, scoops, and holes. The front drop cuts look like they might help funnel air from the new larger grille, allowing hot air from the main radiator assembly to escape the car while also providing a serious downforce boost. The center section is an obvious intake allowing cool air to run across the top of the engine where the turbochargers sit. We also can’t forget the giant shark-gill venting over the front tires, which should help draw out turbulent air from the wheel wells. This should improve brake cooling and help decrease drag.

With all that potential downforce, this Black Series is going to need some serious grunt. According to Nurburgring taxi service Fastablast, who randomly posted detailed release on the GT R Black Series, this newest AMG will see its power output boosted to 720 horsepower. That is a full 150 horsepower more than what the GT R arrived with. If these numbers are correct, torque gets as serious bump too at 627 lb-ft.

The Black Series name is always used for the pinnacle of AMG’s engineering efforts. By all appearance, this new Mercedes-AMG GT R Black Edition is no different. We still have no word on official confirmation from Mercedes on the reveal of this new monster, but with leaks like this it is likely soon.
