Mercedes-AMG GT R Coupe Pricing Revealed

At $157,000, the “Beast of the Green Hell” tops the AMG GT lineup in pricing.

Mercedes-Benz has revealed pricing for the 2018 AMG GT-R Coupe, and at $157,000, it won’t be cheap.

How does that price compare to the other GT R variants?

Well, the standard GT R Coupe starts at $112,400. Although, you can hardly call any GT R “standard.” The previous crown jewel in the lineup, the Edition 50 GT C Coupe, is priced at $145,000, roughly $12,000 less than the 2018 AMG GT-R Coupe. And the AMG GT S Coupe starts at $132,400.

Then again, we guess it’s all relative whether or not you think $157,000 is too much scratch for a more track-dominant version of the GT. If you’re a diehard race enthusiast, it could be relatively cheap once you start comparing it to some of the other nameplates in the segment.

After all, the 577-horsepower AMG GT variant honed its skills on the most demanding race track in the world: the Nürburgring Nordschleife. That’s how the car earned its nickname, the “Beast of the Green Hell.”

In fact, according to Mercedes, in an independent test by the magazine Sport Auto, the AMG GT R was faster than any other rear-wheel-drive road-going sports car ever tested there, with a lap time of just 7:10.9.

Specific enhancements on the AMG GT R Coupe include an extensively modified suspension, active aerodynamics, active rear-wheel steering, and nine-way adjustable traction control.

The newly crowned king of the Mercedes AMG GT lineup is powered by a 4.0-liter V8. It’s also been constructed with superlight materials throughout the body of the car, which makes it even faster going through the corners.
