Aside from 23 more horses for the twin-turbo V6, 2020 GLC 43 gains a new AMG grill, fresh wheels, updated MBUX, and more.

Whatever Mercedes-AMG touches, soon becomes a high-performance powerhouse. Take for example the GLC 43. In coupe and standard SUV styles, the “low-power” AMG luxury performance machines bring tons of power to the party with its 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 and rear-biased 4MATIC all-wheel drive system ready to make that trip to the school pick-up line an adventure.

Now that Mercedes-Benz has updated the GLC range with a refreshed look for the 2020 model year, it’s AMG’s turn to turn up the heat, which it definitely has done with the GLC duo.

Whether you pick the SUV or the coupe, the GLC 43’s turbocharged V6 comes with a good-sized gain in herd size for 2020, to the tune of 23 horses. Thus, the mill will now make 385 horsepower to the corners through the nine-speed dual-clutch auto, while still offering the 384 lb-ft of torque from the 2019 model year.

The boost in power is a result of bigger turbos and software changes, all capable of sending the GLC 43 duo to 60 mph in 4.7 seconds. And speaking of software, the standard top speed is electronically limited to 130 mph, unless you pop for 21-inch wheels and summer performance shoes; then, the top speed is 150 mph.

Surrounding the 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 is an all-new AMG-specific grill, LED headlights, and matte-black air-intake fins trimmed in silver. The aggressive looks continue along the sides with special side sills to give the GLC 43 a longer appearance, and end at the rear with a diffuser, a pair of rounded exhaust tips, and upgraded LED tail lights.

Inside the GLC 43 SUV and coupe includes standard sports seats in black with red topstitching, aluminum trim, and AMG’s signature steering wheel in black Napp leather. Nearly two feet of digital displays let the driver know what’s going on via the MBUX infotainment system, while they can also change the vehicle’s driving dynamics with a quintet of programs, each customizable to their heart’s contentment.

The new GLC 43 SUV and Coupe in their latest guises also feature the AMG- specific radiator grille, identifying them straight away as fully-fledged members of our diverse and highly successful SUV family,” said AMG boss Tobias Moers. “This mid-size performance SUV combines new, expressive design features with enhanced performance, the innovative MBUX infotainment system and absolute viability in everyday use. And, of course, its exceptional agility and sporty driving dynamics mean that we are able to meet our brand promise of “Driving Performance” in this segment, too.”

Both GLC 43 models are expected to arrive in U.S. showrooms in late 2019, with pricing to be announced closer to release.
