Sticky Floormats Prompt Recall of New M-Class
Mercedes M-Class drivers be forewarned. If you’ve bought a 2012 or 2013 ML, your sensible, rubber, all-season floor mats might be plotting against you. Mercedes has just issued a recall on the mats because they could cause the SUV’s gas pedal to get stuck.

According to MB, the mats may not match the curve of the floor. In a nightmare scenario, the gas pedal might not fully retract after the driver lifts their foot, causing the car to continue accelerating. That sounds a lot like the problem that Toyota experienced in 2009. Unlike that debacle though, MLs will shut off the accelerator when the brakes are pressed simultaneously. That means panic braking in the Benz works even the accelerator is stuck.

There haven’t been any accidents or injuries caused thus far, but the messed-up mats might affect several thousand vehicles across the country. The good news is that dealers will replace the mats for free.
