Mercedes Unimog Flexes for the Camera in Off-road Snow Demo

Sure, G-Wagens are off-road ready but conquering the trails in a diesel Benz is even more exhilarating.

Of all the Benzes we wish we could have here in the United States, the Unimog is definitely up there. The G-Wagen is a Hollywood star nowadays, and while the G- and M-Classes are be good to go for the off-beaten trail, there’s nothing like a diesel benz truck clawing through the rough terrain.

And what’s even better than that? Allowing the Unimog to narrate its own video, as was the case with this recent off-road demo by YouTube channel YOUCAR, featuring a blue 2019 Unimog U 4023 playing in the snow.

The blue Unimog uses all 231 horses of its 5.1-liter turbo diesel to traverse a snowy scene somewhere in Europe, paving a path through it all.

No matter how wet or rocky things got, the Unimog deftly handles it all thanks to its low center of gravity, excellent ground clearance with the help of portal axles, and improved weight distribution thanks to, of all things, the new Euro VI emissions standard (which prompted Mercedes to move the engine back three feet to accommodate the necessary emissions gear).

After a fun day in the snow, the Unimog set off for home through the snow-covered roads. We can only imagine what it would be like to play with a snow romper like this one. We guess we’ll have to wait two decades to find out.
