Tesla and Mercedes Confirm Partnership

An electric Benz seems much more likely now thanks to a confirmed partnership with EV manufacturing superstars Tesla Motors. Daimler has been in cahoots with Tesla since they invested in them in ’09 and with the electric Smart car. Still, Mercedes has been talking about an electric model for years and this is the first major headway we’ve heard of in some time.

Mercedes’ program will include a full power train including the motor, gearbox, software, and inverters from Tesla. However, they haven’t given any further detail about the car they’re building. It also makes it difficult to speculate, especially considering Tesla’s growing line-up. Between the  Roadster, Model S, and Model X, almost anything is possible.
