Modded C63 507 Edition Makes Drag Race Wins Look Easy

By -

We sure do miss the thunderous M156 V8, so it’s nice seeing one clobber the competition.

With so much hype surrounding the new crop of AMG cars, it’s nice to see one of the old ones still out taking the fight to new cars. AMG’s 507 Edition was one of the more powerful versions of the prior C63, and arguably one of the better sounding versions as well, with no fussy turbos to get in the way of that gritty sounding V8. And as a runway racer and tuning platform, the 507 Edition makes for a good starting point.

According to the description of this video, this C63 is making 630 horsepower, though specifics aren’t given as to how it’s making almost 125 horsepower over stock. Our ears didn’t detect the presence of any forced induction in the way of a screw-type or centrifugal supercharger. After that the only thing we can think of is some pretty extreme engine work and tuning, plus a little bit of spray would help to achieve those numbers as well.

The SCC500 Rolling 50 races present a perfect opportunity for a car like this C63 to stretch its legs, and what better competition to go up against than other AMGs? In the name of the event “Rolling 50” means the cars do roll races from 50 km/h, and then carry on down the runway. In the first race, the modified C63 has a chance to see how it stacks up with a new C63s.

The answer is: it holds its own quite well. Both new and old C63s seem to reach the line at the same time, but the straight-piped 507 Edition is the only one creating a soundtrack worth listening to. That same noise is re-played in the next race, but this time with the 507 taking an easy win over a CLS63 AMG.
