Sweet mother of God! According to sources at Autocar, the forthcoming Mercedes AMG E63 will receive a massive boost to the already beefy 4.0L twin-turbo V8 that currently powers both the C63 and the AMG GT. Those sources peg the new car’s horsepower to be somewhere in the range of 600 horsepower.

While the new E63 is a few months away from its formal debut at the Detroit Auto Show, pieces of what to expect from Mercedes’ newest super sedan have begun to leak out. Chief among them would be this horsepower rumor; if proven true, the E63 AMG would be one of the most powerful sedans in the world. While it wouldn’t beat a Hellcat Charger, the ability for aftermarket tuners to up the boost should be more than enough to take the fight to the Americans and their Hellcat.

As well as being one of the most powerful sedans offered, the new E63 AMG would also prove to be the most powerful V8 the company currently offers. Let’s all cross our fingers and hope Mercedes comes through and turns these rumors into reality. Or that the company completely takes us off base and drops in a 700-horsepower engine to directly compete with the Hellcat. One can only hope.
