Rumor has it that the forthcoming Mercedes AMG E63 will receive a massive boost to the already beefy 4.0L twin-turbo V8 that currently powers both the C63 and the AMG GT.
The new CTS-V is rated at 640 HP. They had to keep it under the 650 the new Z06 has.
If MB is going to state 600 on their next E, it better be under rated as usual. That would only be 23 more than the 577 currently stated which in my case turned out to be 629 in reality with my base line dyno.
Then again, the horsepower war begins... I really do think that AMG E sedans are their bread and butter so Im pretty sure that these new generation E63s would be beefier from its contenders off from the factory..
1. They use numbers divisible by 5: GT = 340kW; GT S = 375kW; C63 = 350kW; C63 S = 375kW; E63 = 410kW; E63 S = 430kW; A45 = 280kW (pre-facelift = 265kW)
2. W212 E63 S is very close to 600hp. I'm sure they want to advertise the new one as a "> 600hp car".
3. S65 has 463kW (630/621 hp). They'll probably stay below that number.
Looks like the most likely power outputs are: 450kW, 455kW and 460kW.
My whishlist:
1. 9G DCT
2. At least 100kg lighter than W212 E63 S 4MATIC
3. Full airmatic (C63S and W212 E63S: front=steel, rear=air). The main reason I want it: that nasty 14cm speed bump 150m from my house (legal limit is 10cm, but apparently law doesn't apply to government's paper pushers). It's possible to lift the car with airmatic.
4. Nappa leather in the middle of the steering wheel (like S63). C63S and W212 E63S have leather everywhere and... plastic right in front of the driver's face. Besides, 5 series spyshot shows leather, so E class should have it too.
I doubt that AMG would put a higher horsepower version of the 4.0 L TT V8 motor in the $100,000 E63 than it would put in its $150k flagship performance car the GT S. My guess is that if the next E63 S gets a 600 bhp version of the motor the GT S will as well.
I wouldn't want airmatic, in fact the one in the rear annoys me. The ABC system however I would go for, some form of magneto theological suspension, or combination of the two.
Lighter weight would be nice, as would more power - I just hope it doesn't look too much like everything else and they make the E stand out - the AMG E more so.
FF. W212 E63 M156 non-pano 18" P2 ParkT NightV (gone but will be missed).
Being able to put the power to the road effectively is the way to compensate falling behind CTS-V's 630hp. That's where DCT comes in and MB really should consider that. MB is again using 4matic to compensate but that might not be enough because the new M5 will have both DCT and AWD.

Better colors too.
All true. But I think that AMG for whatever stupid reason is wedded to dowdy colors -- your Cardinal Red being an exception. Where is the bright/electric blue like BMW's San Marino Blue??

I agree with this assessment. Pretty easy for the "refresh" of the GT/ GTS to get a hp bump. The 213 E63 will likely post the 600 AND better fuel economy than the outgoing 5.5 engine.

The GT/GTS uses a 7 Speed DCT, I would bet on that being the tranny. I would expect the M5 to have the better DCT. Porsche and BMW have had the jump on this for a while now.

You wouldn't want ABC. It's the worst suspension MB has. In my experience, the handling is very artificial and it has a propensity for failure. Now, if they did some form of magnetic suspension, I'd be all in.
what the next e63 isnt going to use that little 4.0 motor is it?
after all how much hp can they get out of a considerably smaller engine... and with the horsepower wars continuing, how long can they use the 4 liter engine.. wont they eventually have to go bigger again?
hopefully the next e63/cls63 will have the same 5.5 with over 630 hp. and 650 lbft stock...
5.5 is dead. Mercedes went with 4.0 because any larger and the car has higher taxes in a lot of countries.
4.0 can make big power, just look what Porsche and Nissan GTR's can make with only 3.8 liter and 6 cylinders. It's all about using bigger and more efficient turbo technology.

5.5 is dead??? i really hope not. if so i guess ill be hanging on to mine.
yeah but porsche is cool for a lot of other reasons.
nissan gtr will never be cool. even with 8000 hp.
amg always had the big displacement v8.
and 4 liter might be ok for little amg gts - only 3400 lbs, but e63 is what 42-4300 lbs...

Mercedes can easily extract more than 700 bhp from the 4 liter TT V8 as tuners have. This engine is essentially two of the 2.0 V4s in the 45 cars which makes 355 bhp in applications such as the CLA45. Two times 355 is 710 bhp. Of course when you are dealing with a big and heavy car with a smaller motor with a huge amount of boost as this engine has I am sure it will be more sluggish than the current M157 engine before the boost comes on in force.
I also except DCT in the new E63.
I believe MB will be saving the big V8 M157 engine for the bigger more expensive cars like the S63 sedan and coupe, SL63, G63 and GL63.

and rightfully so. "5.5 is dead" is a scary thought. 4.0 liter in an s63? i hope not.
A 5.0 liter hy-uhn-die something or other ...genesis?? ... Tried to blow past me a couple times and show off that "growl" from the Korean v8.... I had to roll my windows down and slow down just to hear it
Not sure what was up his a$$... I gave him a thumbs up ... Cool car bro
