We’ve been spying the next generation Mercedes E-Class for the last few months, but few details have come out about the new car. What tech it will get? What engines it will receive? You know, small things. And with the car almost done, or at least in its final stages of development, we’ve been wondering what Mercedes has up its sleeves for the venerable mid-level luxury sedan. Thankfully, we’re finally getting a glimpse of what’s to come with this all new E-Class.

According to a new report from Left Lane News, the next generation E-Class will get an almost S-Class level of technology and comfort. First off, the new E-Class will get a full self-driving suite of technology and usher in a new age of luxury car driving. This new system uses lasers, cameras, and sensors, allowing the car to cruise almost remotely at highway speeds.

One major departure from the previous generation is that the new E-Class will receive a straight-six engine, something that hasn’t been offered in over 20 years. Again, according to the report, this new straight-six motor will eventually, within the next few years, take over the duty of the now aging V6 that can be found throughout the Mercedes lineup.

However, one point that won’t be changing is the 5.5L twin-turbocharged V8 found in the current generation E63 AMG. That engine will stay around, but possibly receive a small horsepower bump.

Right now, the new E-Class is tentatively getting ready for a January debut in Detroit, but we will know more as the dates move closer, so stay tuned.
