Is a 5-Speed SL the Next Must-Have Classic?

Another 5-Speed SL Has Popped up, and We’ll Be Sad to See This One Go

Rarity always seems to have an advantage when it comes to the classic car market, and this 300SL is no exception. If the price is right, a dog-leg 5-speed manual transmission could sit under your right palm, giving you authority over the transmission that most will never experience. We just showed you a Lorinser SL with an extra pedal, but this one looks like it might get snagged at a better price. And it belongs to Motor Trend‘s Jason Cammisa.

All this recent SL talk makes us wonder about the R129 market. Not only are they reasonably priced, but they have been proving to be thoroughly bulletproof, in typical Mercedes fashion. This one has only spun the odometer 89,500 times, and comes with a fair bit of paperwork, as well. Keen eyes will see that it is no-longer a two-tone paint, which was the result of a re-spray several years ago.

Mechanical condition seems to be in good condition, too, with some areas showing age where you’d expect them. A factory hardtop with new headliner is also included in the sale. In all, it is a very well-rounded package for a classic, and exceedingly rare, Mercedes-Benz.

If this one is calling your name, you’d better act quickly, though, as the auction ends on the 15th.
