Mercedes O-Klasse Van

Forget a Volkswagen 23-window; look to this Mercedes for all of your vintage bus needs.

These days Mercedes is known for quality, technological advancement, and driving comfort. In the 1950s, Mercedes competed with Volkswagen in the bus-for-the-everyman market, selling the O-Klasse as a large-and-in-charge living room on wheels.

If done properly, this old O could be the restomod vintage recreational vehicle of your dreams with a bit of spit shine and, well, let’s face it, a complete restoration. Having seen only one of these in person, we can confirm that this is a very large machine.  With the 43-horsepower diesel engine from the 180D it is hardly a speed demon. Sometimes, however, life is about the journey not just the destination. Take some time to smell the diesel fumes.

If you’re a vintage Mercedes collector, you probably should have an O319 in your collection. This is a very rare bird. Most of the trucks Mercedes built on this chassis were fire engines or tarpaulin-adorned transport trucks. The Minibus version is a difficult one to find, especially here in the United States. We’ve heard of a few of these being outfitted as hotel and resort transport vehicles in their day, but they were not imported in great numbers.

These days, the hip thing to do is to sell off all of your possessions and live out of a van for a year or longer. There are some young folks doing travel blogging that make their entire living by promoting brands or events or chambers of commerce on their Instagram pages. With a unique looking vehicle like this one, your social media account would be sure to attract even more attention. This O-Class could be your ticket to the most insta-famous account on the web. Regardless of what this van ends up being used for, we love it.
