The World’s First SL55 Manual Transmission Build Is Underway

By -

Bolting up the manual transmission is easy, it’s the wiring and electronics that will be brutal.

Life has a few different levels of difficulty. There’s learning to cook, learning to play guitar, becoming a wizard at algebra, and so on. But those are primarily knowledge based. Another set of difficulty comes from actual achievements, such as landing a man on Mars, or even more difficult, installing a manual transmission in an SL55 AMG.

From the outset, it is known that dealing with computers and can-buses will be an entire nightmare, but that’s not the extent of the work that Tavarish is going to do. As shown in the video above, he’s going to hark back to the original meaning of SL: “sport light.”

Since the SL55 isn’t very light, and is only sporty based on the engine, there’s a considerable amount of work to be done. After all, aside from one SL spotted at Fuji Speedway, we’ve yet to see any SL used in a sporting way.

This is just the beginning for the SL55 build, and what Tavarish wants to accomplish is to have a build quality equal to that of a standard Mercedes production car. Promised a build that will make the AMG community turn on its ear, we are really looking forward to the progress that’ll be made. Are we ready to see the coolest AMG ever? There’s a lot to look forward to.
