Mercedes Racing Driver Valtteri Bottas Wants You to Design His Helmet
Artists can get their moment in the spotlight by designing a new lid for the flying Finn.
If you’re a Fan of the Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula 1 team like most of us are, there’s a really cool announcement just made from one of the drivers. Valtteri Bottas is looking for a new helmet design, and wants a creation made directly by one of his fans. Gone will be the mostly black (sometimes blue) and white design of his 2017-season helmet, and in its place will be your very own creation.
Mercedes AMG F1 has set up a website where you can find out all the details on how to enter, including a PDF template for you to let those creative juices flow. A winner will be hand-picked by Bottas himself, and included for the winner will be a replica helmet, signed by #77 himself as well. It is one of the most significant contributions to Formula 1 that someone can play a part in, save for being an actual part of the team.
You may recall in 2015 there was some controversy made when Sebastian Vettel brought to light the silly FiA rule that mandated drivers were allowed only one helmet livery per season. Since then, they are allowed two. Why is that important? Because for the winner that means Bottas will be wearing that design for the majority of the F1 season in 2018.
Contestants have until Jan. 12th to submit their entries, so now’s the time to get to pen to paper!
