Some trends never die — especially when it comes to a hot set of wheels. They just find a way of reinventing themselves.

Unfortunately, this is one of those trends that most law abiding citizens wish would stay buried in the past. But as we’ve learned in a recent MB World thread, stealing wheels and tires, then leaving the vehicles on bricks looks like it might be back on the rise.

Just take a few moments to check out the thread started by Sylvainsm, who describes what recently happened to him in his garage – although the risers of choice in this case were something other than old-school bricks.

“So woke up yesterday morning and found my 2016 C450 on plastic crates! I had the optional 19″ black and chrome wheels and the Pirelli pzero summer performance run flats,” wrote the Los Angeles based member.

MB World member dnice-1, who drives a C300 4Matic, chimed in to say the same thing happened to him a year ago, noting that sites like Craigslist and eBay might be fueling a new trend in stolen tires and wheels, because they make it easy to sell the items.

“Even with wheel locks someone who wants your wheels will get your wheels. Go on YouTube and watch how fast locks can be removed,” wrote dnice-1, who also has a bit of advice that might make it easy to track down those wheels and the culprit, if they are stolen. “It’s also [a] good idea to etch your wheels so if found you are able to verify they are off your car. But still recommend locks because it does slow them down.”

What do you think is the best protection against this unwanted trend?
